These gates were restored by our team for English Heritage Appuldurcombe House, Isle of Wight. They were in a sorry state when we removed them as you can see from our before photo! They’ve now been carefully restored. Many of the rusting bars needed building up as they were so badly eroded. It’s great to see a project in place after working hard on them over the last few months. We installed them last week and they certainly look the part now!

St Laurence Church in Stroud asked local crafts people / artists to put in designs for some new apex roof crosses. The original stone ones were made of Cotswold limestone and over the years have eroded and broken up, meaning there are 9 apex crosses missing from the roof. My ironwork design was shortlisted - you can see the half size maquette along with other shortlisted designs in the church this month. The design was inspired by elements already existing in the church building and surrounding grounds. My plan is to recycle old ironwork donated by the community and reforge it into new bar. If the design gets chosen our team will be inviting local groups to be part of the making process. Do go see it in person and put a comment in the visitors book! It would be a great project to be selected for.

A big thanks to skilled blacksmith Dan for teaching on Saturday. The weather had cooled a little from the heatwave earlier in the week but it was still very warm with three forges blazing 🔥 ! We made sure we had a fridge of complimentary cool drinks 💧 for everyone who took part. However, because we don’t want to cook anyone and keep the experience enjoyable, we are not running courses in July and August. But DO spread the word because we have a September experience ready to book on ticket tailor now. We are also discussing new ideas for what we’d like to make on future courses. New gates installed in the Porters Lodge, New College - Oxford. Made from blackened stainless steel (heat treated) with brass details.

It’s been either blazing sunshine or pouring rain whilst we’ve been installing these safety handrails, modifying steps and installing drainage grilles on the roof of Hampton Court Palace but the view has been worth it!

Another enjoyable day of teaching, making on our beginners blacksmithing course. One of our attendees made a knife from his father’s old metal file. This turned out brilliantly with the patina in the finish (see first pic). We have a few spaces left for June 27th. Our course can be really nice to do with a friend or family member- there’s Father’s Day coming up! Booking link in bio. Old steel tools can be used if you would like to transform something sentimental, drop us an email.
Likely to be our last date until September as it gets too hot to sweat it out with three forges at once burning in the workshop! 🔥

These are steel archway ‘portals’ we designed for the entrances to Elmore Court treehouses in Gloucestershire. They’ve really mellowed into the landscape since installation.
