Free potatoes make everything better 🥔 …

A short story, in pictures, of how a simple job can turn into me winging on social media.

Working Title: “When Eddie Hall was the last person to fit an oil filter”…

All the misery was reversed however, with loads of free potatoes. 🥔 👌

Been keeping this lil’ gem up my sleeve for a while…

What started as a starting/running fault being down to a cracked liner… turned into a complete overhaul of engine and back end as well as a repaint.

Whilst it was here, it also had a 12v alternator conversion, new back wheels kindly painted by and complete re-wire as well as new brakes, half shaft bearings and seals, top cover overhaul and rock shaft bushes to name a few bits.

The engine had.. new pistons, liners, crank, bearings, gaskets and headwork.

Really now looks the part and has already been put to work on the customers allotment. 🚜 🌽

Hi… I’m not even going to pretend this time that I’m really good at instagram stuff, because I’m not. I get busy, I forget, I’m a mess…

But here’s some serious engineering from the last few hot and sunny months. Enjoy ☺️ 🌞 🚜

Bo***cks to you, 25 year old manual track adjusters and everything you stand for!!

A short story of how quick 10minute track change turned into a 5 hour Grinding, Heating, Welding and Hammering hate fest.

Old rotten/seized adjusters gassed out and removed 👍
Adjusting hole tapped out 👍
New ones made up out of some M20 all-thread and some welded on nuts 👍
All reassembled which much grease and enthusiasm 🫡🫡

Catching up with some more nonsense…

1, Forza Horizon: Weapons of Grass destruction!

2, Very tidy Zaxis 130 for 1000hour service.

3,4,5, stunning Fastrac in for some electrical faults including ignition barrel and rectification of some very questionable solenoid wiring 🫣

6, Don’t know who organised this..

7,8, Whoever said working on mowers isn’t infuriating, has never worked on mowers! New gearbox for another Hayter.

9, delivering the goods 🌾

10, A picture paints a thousand words… all of these ones were explicit!!

11,12,13, More bits on Project 35X 🚜

14, A Mule on the wrong Fuel 🫣

15, “It sometimes overheats mate” 🤦

16, Little Hitachi stuck in High Tracking

17, Petrol Fergie having a new starter ⚙️

18, Immaculate JS130 from last year in for 1000hour service, oil leak and engine oil cooler.

19, JD compact with various electrical faults.

20, RIP to my favourite pliers 😓

Trying to keep to my word and post some mildly uninteresting content once in a while.

1,2,3, Picturesque afternoon out sorting this bent headstock. Some heat and attitude adjustment saw it right. 🔥

4,5, Full service on this Genie cherry picker and removal of the most prolific diesel bug I’ve ever seen. 🐛

6, !GAME OVER!

7, Mower & hedge trimmer serviced, repaired and returned to customer.

8, Anyone who can tell me what’s wrong with this picture gets nothing at all. Hint: was the mower in previous picture and it didn’t start properly. Someone has been here before… naughty someone!

9, Au Revoir 👋 🇫🇷

10, Tired of flat puns, look no further! 🛞

11, New tracks for this wee CAT.

12,13 Sunny Friday nights fixing broken stuff.

14,15,16,17, Project 35X gets new pistons/liners, new front axle bushes, reamed out small end bushes and some serious artwork from 🥰

18,19 Little Kubota with a few hydro issues.

20, Hayter gearbox replacement. The Birmingham screwdriver was merely there for moral support 🔨

All popular influencers will tell you, it’s important to constantly be updating your social media with engaging, relevant and up to date content.

Not wait 227 days then post a load of random pictures…

But here’s 20 snaps of some of the things that have been on the go since then. Enjoy!

Looking back at pictures of balers is PTSD inducing… but it’s nice to be reminded of what a blue sky looks like 🤯

Did dad want a front end loader fitted to his 575??

Not really.. but I figured that he could do with a hand, after all these years carrying his massive legend of a son! 👀

Besides, the next person at haymaking time who whinged to me about moving a bale of hay… was going to get slapped silly!

So fitted a loader I did..

This involved a trip to Ludlow to pull one out of a hedge, probably hadn’t moved since the mid 90s, what could possibly go wrong??
The frame was then fitted and the cab stripped out to gain access to all the oily bits.

Once in there, the lonely double acting spool valve was stripped out and taken to pieces. Two extra slices were added (more brand new bits 👀) which now allowed; Up, down, crowd, tilt and aux bale grab functions. This was refitted with new pipe work (because why not) and new pipes down to the fancy bracket, which I knocked up, to hold the quick couplers for the loader.

I had a go at using the stands somebody else had fabricated, but that soon ended in tears as they were basically made out of cheese, or mechano… or both. So they’ve made permanent residence in the bin and the old thing can rest on a stack of tyres when not in use. 👌

Failing all of this and we never make hay this year, due to global warming or labour coming to power… at least it’s now twice as easy to go camping 🏕️ and has something he didn’t want or need!

Thanks for reading my brief job write up 👍👍
