Every organisation, regardless of its industry, incurs a Cost of Quality (CoQ)—the expenses involved in ensuring that a product or service meets quality standards. But what exactly is the cost of quality, and how can we leverage it to enhance performance and reduce inefficiencies?

Types of Costs in Quality Management

CoQ is broadly categorized into two areas:

1. Cost of Good Quality (Prevention & Appraisal Costs):

These are the costs invested in preventing defects and ensuring quality:

➤Prevention Costs: Training, process improvements, and robust quality management systems.

➤Appraisal Costs: Inspection, testing, and audits to confirm conformance to specifications.

2. Cost of Bad Quality (Failure Costs):

These arise from defects, both before and after delivery:
