Accurate gear manufacture starts long before gear cutting...

So, let's turn our focus to the DN Solutions Global Puma 5100M. 👌

Bores, faces, shoulders and bearing diameters all need to be machined accurately, providing the geometry and datums required for the operations that follow.

This machine, amongst others in our fleet, plays its part by providing accurate turning and driven tooling capability for gear components and shafts, helping us maintain dimensional control as components progress through manufacture.

There are gears, and then there are gears like this.

This large helical gear shaft is getting plenty of attention on the shop floor this morning, and it's a great example of the scale our gear manufacturing capability can handle.

Even at this size, it still comes down to the same thing: achieving the accuracy, tooth profile and finish the application demands.

Feels good to be back on the machines... and we’re starting with one of our mills! 👌

After the bank holiday, production is straight back underway, with our CNC machining centres already working through this week’s gear components.

With multi-axis CNC milling and turning in-house, we can control critical features, datums and tolerances across multiple machining operations before components move on to processes such as gear cutting and grinding.

It means tighter process control from one operation to the next, helping us maintain the dimensional accuracy and repeatability our customers expect.

This batch of precision spur gear shafts has made its way through production, with the same focus on accuracy and consistency applied from the first component to the last.

Designed to transfer power and motion within geared systems, components like these need to perform consistently, especially when you're producing them at volume.

We're on the shop floor getting these gear components ready for CNC turning.

Our multi-axis capability means we can machine the critical diameters, bores and features in-house, keeping greater control over each component as it moves through production.

This is what helps keep things efficient, consistent and lead times down. ✔️

Manufactured to tight tolerances, each shaft has been through our inspection process to verify the required dimensions and gear geometry before leaving the shop floor.

As an aerospace-accredited manufacturer, we're committed to supporting the industry's journey towards Net Zero through precision gear manufacturing, testing and validation.

One way we're doing that is through Project SONATA, where we're contributing our expertise to the development of an electric drive transmission for an aircraft taxi system led by Airbus and supported by the Aerospace Technology Institute.
