And lo, it came to pass, that on the 6th of August 1984, Gordon did start at Thomsons Motor Factors, where an almost unbelievable FORTY YEARS later to the day, he still finds himself(jokes about 'life sentences' are now totally redundant).
On that day(a beautiful sunny day in the middle of a long hot Summer - remember them?), the staff was Tom Thomson, John Brown, Kenny Jaffrey, Old Tom Rattray(our one and only van driver at the time), and in the office Val Foggo. Gordon replaced Billy Gower who was moved up to Discount Motor Store.
Will Gordon still be here in another 40 years? Well, some people reckon the building will fall down around him first 😃 😀

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the day we first opened our doors. On the 2nd of November 1982, Tom Thomson along with manager John Brown, an one driver(old Tom Rattray) began trading in the old army barracks building(no central heating, two calor gas heaters....we were a hardier bunch then!!)
Tom Thomson moved on almost 20 years ago, and John now owns the business, which is now run by his sons Seth and Ritchi, helped(if you can call it that 😆)by Gordon, Harry, Darren, and as many as six drivers.

To put this into some kind of context, the top 5 UK singles that day in 1982 were:

In what has been another pretty difficult year, not just for the motor trade, but for the country in general, it's good to know that we seem to be doing something right.
We have won "Supplier Of The Year, 2021" from the UAN Group(who are the main buying group we belong to). This is not just for Scotland, this is nationwide!! This has been a very unpredictable year, and it has been our constant hard work to try and stay one step ahead of any impending difficulties that has won through for us. Most of our customers are probably not aware of how hard it has been behind the scenes this year, but every single one of our staff have worked tirelessly to keep things going, and of course we have to thank our very valued customers for sticking with us again this last 12 months. We do all this for you guys.
It's hard to say how the NEXT 12 months will pan out, but we'll certainly try to keep delivering the service you expect from us, and it's nice to get a bit of recognition for our labours.
