You are more than just a number...

A special story to share this

Following a serious motorbike accident, Ryan faced the prospect of not being able to return to the job he loved. But thanks to a bit of teamwork between Blackwood Plant Hire, Bell Equipment UK and The Lighthouse Charity, we've been able to help get him back behind the controls.

One of our new BELL B20 dump trucks has been specially adapted, with the operating controls moved to the left-hand side to allow Ryan to operate the machine again. Getting back to work isn't just about earning a living. It's about confidence, independence, routine and feeling like yourself again.

On , it's a reminder of just how important those things can be, particularly in the construction industry.

Ryan of course completed his training on site Blackwood Training 💪

We're really proud to have played a part in helping Ryan get back to doing what he loves, and a big thanks to everyone involved in making it happen.

Have a watch of Ryan's story. 👇

List of Thanks:

Our long reach fleet is stretching even further! 💪

Our first 30-tonne Komatsu PC240SLF with an 18m reach joins the Blackwood Plant Hire fleet, supplied by McHale Komatsu. This machine expands this range following the arrival of our Kobelco 260 earlier this year!!

Built for the jobs that need that extra reach, this machine comes equipped with:

✅ Miller Groundbreaking GTX hitch and custom buckets for dredging
✅ Trimble Inc. Earthworks 3D GPS machine control from SITECH UK and Ireland
✅ Xwatch Safety Solutions XW4 height and slew restriction, with an integrated virtual wall and track pedal lock
✅ 800mm track pads for added stability
✅ Safety Shield AI human detection, alerting the operator when people enter the detection zone around the machine
✅ Full automatic lubrication system from Gebäudereinigung Groeneveld

We now have one of the largest long reach fleets in Scotland, ranging from 15m to 22m — with GPS, Xwatch and Safety Shield fitted across the entire fleet. 👏

From dredging and watercourse maintenance to specialist excavation and safety-critical rail work, we’ve got the reach, technology and experienced operators to support your next project — with Xwatch height and slew restriction helping operators work within defined limits.

A new Cat on the block! 🐱🚜

Our brand-new Caterpillar D2 Dozer has arrived from Finning UK and Ireland, joining the Blackwood Plant Hire fleet in response to customer demand and complementing our existing range of Komatsu dozers.

Small in size but big on specification, this machine comes equipped with:

✅ Trimble Inc. Earthworks 3D from SITECH UK and Ireland with full machine control, helping deliver accurate grading and efficient earthmoving.
✅ Safety Shield AI human detection technology, alerting the operator when people enter the machine’s detection zones and supporting safer working on site.
✅ And, believe it or not… heated joysticks! Clearly, somebody at Caterpillar has experienced a Scottish winter! 😂🔥

We’re looking forward to seeing pictures from the lucky operator getting behind the controls — preferably once they’ve stopped telling everyone about their warm hands! 📸

A special addition to the Blackwood Plant Hire fleet 👏

One of our new BELL B20s has been specially adapted, with the main controls retrofitted to the left-hand side to allow an operator with reduced mobility to get back behind the controls.

It’s a brilliant example of what can be achieved when the right people come together to make plant more accessible and inclusive.

We’re of course proud to have the Lighthouse Charity and Bell Equipment UK involved in the story, and we’ll be sharing more about the machine, the modification and the people behind it very soon.

Watch out for the video end of next week, which is all happening on site at the Blackwood Training ground! 🎬

🚨 Further investment across Blackwood Plant Hire Limited 🚨

We’ve continued our investment in Blackwood Training Academy with the arrival of a new branded JCB digger, with a dumper and roller also on the way and due to be on the training ground next week.

A big thanks to George McKnight and the team at Scot JCB Ltd for their continued support in helping us strengthen the training fleet. 🙌

The new JCB will also feature Safety Shield technology, bringing the latest plant safety innovation directly into the training environment.

For us, this investment is about more than simply adding new machines. It’s about continuing to invest in the equipment, technology and practical training needed to support the next generation of skilled plant operators.
