Oooh the darn aftershave bottle knocked off the shelf 😖

Customer says can you just swap the sink I’ve brought - just 🤦‍♀️🥴 - kept us happy for a couple of hours fitting the sink that was taller so altering pipework and moving the tiles up the wall

With a lovely new tap as limescale had blocked the old one - happy teeth brushing 👍

30 minutes flushing a toilet trying to figure out why all the carpet is soaking wet we eventually realise there is a faint ppppssssss sound coming from in the wall when no water is being used

Sadly leaks on pipework do happen when they are buried in walls or behind tiles or under tiled floors - we have no option but to make access however possible to repair it

We regularly have to pull a section of ceiling down so that we can get at leaking pipes ☹️

Hope what is buried stays happily buried🙏

This was a first for me

The red ball which is the float on a ball valve in the tank in the loft had snapped off and was floating around

The tank then did not know when to shut off and so just kept filling with water

Fortunately the tank was installed correctly and everything was correct and in its place and the water safely overflowed constantly to outside

I’ve seen several ceilings damaged from old ball valves and tanks with badly installed overflows

It’s always definitely worth someone checking the tanks in the loft every now and then 👍

It’s why I don’t like boilers in lofts as you just don’t know what’s happening up there until you get marks on the ceiling below 😱

So another one of our finest hours

This Electric radiator was poorly fitted on a plasterboard wall and had been knocked and fell off the wall

We had to remove the damaged plaster and then rebuild the wall adding supports and strength behind and then some new plasterboard

A plasterer and painter worked there magic and then we popped the radiator back on the wall 👏💪

If I have to come back and do this life again then I am coming back as a cat

Not a gas man

And definitely not as a plumber again

At least then I won’t have to cook my own tea at 10pm at night whilst texting and sorting the diaries

But yet I do still absolutely love knowing that my lovely people and their lovely pets are all snuggly buggley in their lovely homes

Need a plumber?

It’s where I started in the game 20 years ago and I’m still regularly repairing or replacing taps and showers and toilets as well as all the service and repair and installation on the gas side

Funny when you look back - I remember gaining my plumbing qualifications and trying to apply for all sorts of jobs and nobody wanted to know me (female, not enough experience)

I then fortunately stumbled across British Gas advertising for adult apprentices and the rest is history but my gosh how time flies - I’ve been in business on my own now for 9 years

And I’m still blessed - even when it’s super tough and hard going I still love my job and my lovely customers - it’s just so rewarding

I am a very fortunate lady and I’m very thankful 🙏

Note - I do still play the lottery and keep my eye open for a rich superman to save me from working so long and hard 😁 I’ve said if I won the lottery I’m going to employ a nice naked chef so that I don’t have to cook my own tea after a hard days graft 🙏🤞

This is my neglected shower head at home that was pathetically dribbling water at me 😖

We live in a really hard water area and limescale is a nuisance problem.

My rain head shower gets that scaled at times that the little holes block and restrict the water flow or start spraying outwards up the wall rather than down.

Once every 3-4 months I take it off, use a cocktail stick to poke through the holes and then spray it with limescale remover and leave it for a while. Then give it a good scrub with the nail brush and repeat the process a couple of times and then it’s as good as new with nice clear holes and I can have my lovely well earned much needed hot shower at the end of each long day 👏😊

And if your questioning how to get the shower head off - they shouldn’t be on super tight and a pair of adjustable spanners or pair of grips should gently undo it - make sure you don’t loose the little black washer in the connector as that’s the bit that makes it watertight when you gently tighten it back on (gentle being the main word - no big muscle man strength over tightening needed - gentle)

Having a new bathroom this year?

Please speak with your bathroom fitter about the design and accessibility before purchasing anything

Bathroom fitters tend not to make repairs in the future

Anything that is buried and concealed is fine until it leaks or packs up

I am regularly having to take a ceiling down as it’s the better option than taking a tiled or wooden floor up

And we are frequently removing faulty concealed showers from inside the walls - remember we are in a hard water area and limescale affects everything - we then retile the wall and install a surface mounted shower which can easily be replaced when it faults in a few years

If the bath taps in the pictures were to leak on the connections underneath then we would have to remove the entire bath which more often than not means removing another sink or loo that’s in the way, damaging the tiled wall that we have to repair with the closest matching tiles we can buy and also buying a new shower screen

Don’t get me wrong - I’m happy taking money off people for my time and efforts but these jobs really are time consuming and very costly when there was absolutely no need in the first place

Oh and please keep a couple of spare boxes of matching tiles hidden under the bath or somewhere safe - You may be grateful for these one day although I hope that is not the case

Please please please choose wisely

The world seems to be far too concerned with looks and the media rather than what’s sensible and practical - I’m just very fortunate to not be wearing high heels and drawing my eyebrows on in the wrong place or having unknown injections of any sort 🙏💪🧠

Oh and to note - please also watch kitchen fitters - please don’t put a brand new kitchen around an ancient boiler - that’s a super common occurrence - numerous times we can’t get the case off a boiler to service it as the kitchen fitters have not followed manufacturers instructions on clearances let alone us dismantling the new kitchen to replace the old boiler

And make sure the kitchen fitters leave the stop tap easily accessible - if it’s an old one it might be worth you replacing it anyway whilst the kitchen is installed and possibly look at a Surestop which is fantastic in giving you a very well positioned and easy way to turn off the water in an emergency

Please remember it’s not just about the looks

Not my finest hour this but a great sense of achievement as always

Budget job with a budget boiler for a customer who had been without heating or hot water for a long time while she saved the money to replace her old condemned unsafe one

Even after 20 years I still get such great pleasure in knowing that I’ve helped someone have the luxury of heating and hot water that we take for granted until it’s not working

Maybe that’s why I still do the job 🤔 for the constant pleasure and reward of having worked my magic and having happy warm, dry and safe lovely customers ❤️

The knee ache and back ache and cuts and bruises would be the reason to pack up 🥴🤬

Nasty

Remember what you wash down a plughole may not necessarily go out and get washed away

Fats and food deposits easily create blockages that no amount of sink unblocker will shift and you could plunge till you could plunge no more when it’s properly blocked

Hope your pipes stay clear and free flowing 🤞
