Decarbonisation is moving forward, but there’s no single path.

In our Real State of Decarbonisation webinar, we explored what’s really happening across the industry.

What we’re seeing is clear:
• The direction is set, but full electrification isn’t always the starting point
• The pressure is growing, but operational realities remain
• The biggest gains come from how fleets operate practically today

Decarbonisation isn’t one solution.
It’s a series of decisions balancing ambition with real-world operations.

Yesterday, we welcomed the Renault Corporate Business Team to Bri-Stor Systems, where they hosted their team meeting before enjoying a day filled with great conversations, and a full factory tour.

It was a fantastic opportunity to spend time together while sharing valuable insight into the work we do.

During the visit, the team explored several key areas across our site, including the Centre of Excellence. They also had the chance to see our manufacturing process up close, with a walk along the production line to understand how our conversions come together from start to finish.

A genuinely positive and productive visit, thank you to the Renault team for joining us.

The commercial sector isn’t standing still on decarbonisation.

But the pace of change is being shaped by operational demands as much as ambition.

Our latest Insight Report explores how fleets are balancing infrastructure limitations, uptime, payload, cost, and vehicle capability while still making measurable progress.

The findings show a sector taking a practical approach, adapting where solutions work operationally, commercially, and at scale.

As the push towards zero emission fleets grows, many organisations face a key challenge: how do you decarbonise without compromising operations?

In our Real State of Decarbonisation webinar, Karl Baker, Operations Director at Halfords Autocentre, shared how they tackled this alongside Bri-Stor Systems.

Karl outlined the reality of their starting point:

• Engines powering both driving and onboard equipment
• Vans running 10–11 hours daily, increasing wear and fuel use
• Rising expectations to reduce emissions in public spaces

The solution? Rethinking onboard power.

By introducing lithium battery systems with Bri-Stor Systems, Halfords removed reliance on the engine to power equipment.

The result:

• Reduced idling and engine dependency
• Lower fuel costs
• Immediate emissions reduction
• A clear pathway to future EV adoption

A practical way to start decarbonising, without disruption.

Fleet decarbonisation isn’t slowing because fleets lack ambition.
It’s slowing because operational realities don’t always align.

38% of fleet professionals told us that charging infrastructure and grid capacity are the biggest barriers to progress, ahead of cost or technology readiness. This is why progress often looks gradual rather than transformational.

Instead of waiting for perfect conditions, many fleets are taking phased, pragmatic approaches, improving efficiency now while electrification and infrastructure continue to scale.

Meet the Maintenance Team 🔧

Keeping a site of this size running safely and smoothly doesn’t happen by accident. Behind the scenes, our Maintenance Team works every day to fix issues, improve facilities, and keep operations moving without disruption.

Led by Facilities Manager Matt Trussler, alongside a skilled and dedicated team, their work often goes unseen - but it’s essential to everything we do.

Fleet decarbonisation is already happening.
But progress isn’t as straightforward as it looks.

76% of fleets say they’re ready to act using solutions available today, yet infrastructure, cost, and operational realities are still slowing things down.

That gap between intent and ex*****on is where most fleets are operating.

We wanted to understand what’s actually happening on the ground, so Bri-Stor Systems gathered insight from fleet professionals across utilities, infrastructure, engineering, and the public sector.

As decarbonisation accelerates, pressure on fleet operations continues to build.

For our Real State of Decarbonisation webinar, we were joined by Catherine Bowen, Head of Decarbonisation & Future Mobility at the BVRLA.

Welcomed by Adam Smith, Operations Director at Bri-Stor Systems, Catherine shared insight into the role the BVRLA plays in supporting members and shaping the policies driving fleet decarbonisation.

Catherine outlined several key challenges on the road to zero:
• 70% of new vans must be zero emission by 2030, yet EV van demand remains well behind target
• Charging accessibility and infrastructure consistency across the UK
• Range limitations associated with electric vehicles
• Welcome support such as the Plug in Van Grant and Depot Charging Scheme, but ongoing barriers around grid capacity, cost and infrastructure readiness

This context clearly demonstrated why operational change matters now. Reducing engine dependency, cutting unnecessary idling and optimising onboard power strategies can deliver meaningful emissions reductions, without disrupting daily operations.

Yesterday, Bri‑Stor Systems hosted its first webinar exploring The Real State of Fleet Decarbonisation, cutting through theory to focus on what’s working in fleets today.

The discussion highlighted a reality many fleet operators recognise:
decarbonisation isn’t just about switching vehicles, it’s about operational change, behaviour, and practical power strategy.

Across the session, we explored:
✔️ What’s genuinely delivering emissions reduction today
✔️ The operational realities fleet managers face
✔️ Why decarbonisation is as much about behaviour and power strategy as it is vehicles

We were proud to be joined by a panel bringing both policy perspective and frontline fleet experience:
🔹 Adam Smith, Operations Director, Bri‑Stor Systems
🔹 Dan Bell, New Product Development Manager, Bri‑Stor Systems
🔹 Catherine Bowen, Head of Decarbonisation & Future Mobility, BVRLA
🔹 Chris Mullings, Head of Fleet, SGN (formerly Openreach)
🔹 Karl Baker, Operations Director, Halfords Autocentres

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to a valuable conversation about the future of fleets. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing insights and real‑world takeaways from the webinar, taking a deeper look at the topics that sparked the most discussion.

We had a great couple of days on site last week welcoming our customer Centrica to host their user group meetings.

Across two packed days, we brought together four of British Gas’s core business areas to get hands on and deep dive into their racking plans for the future.

The goal was to align on a universal racking kit that works across all business areas, with only minimal tweaks where needed. The outcome was a significant step forward, reducing racking specifications across a 7,500+ vehicle fleet from 20 down to just two. This new specification will include minor add on pieces that engineers can order themselves, allowing them to customise their new vans to suit their preferred ways of working.

This new universal setup will roll out across 2,500 new vehicles being built between June 2026 and December 2027, covering both VW Transporter and Toyota Proace platforms.

Days like these are exactly why we love what we do. They are collaborative, practical, and genuinely valuable for everyone involved, helping us work closely with our customers to deliver smarter and more efficient fleet solutions.
