⚡ SELF-LEARNING ENERGY MANAGEMENT + AI — BUILT ON VICTRON & NODE-RED 🤖☀️🔋

We’ve been developing the next stage of intelligent energy management at Off-Grid Dynamics — combining Victron Energy, Node-RED and AI to create an ESS that doesn’t just follow fixed rules, but learns how the property actually uses and produces energy.

Our system continuously builds its own picture of the installation by learning:

🏠 Hourly household consumption — creating a 24-hour load profile based on real usage.

☀️ Solar performance — comparing predicted PV production against actual yield so forecasts can be corrected using real-world system performance.

🔋 Battery requirements — estimating how much stored energy will be required before useful solar generation is available.

🚗 EV consumption separately — preventing vehicle charging from distorting the property’s normal household load profile.

🌦️ Forecast PV production — looking ahead at when solar is expected, rather than simply considering the total predicted generation for the day.

Then comes the AI layer.

Instead of simply deciding “solar tomorrow = don’t charge the battery”, the system can consider when that solar is expected to arrive, predicted household demand, current battery SOC and learned historical behaviour.

For example, if tomorrow is forecast to produce plenty of solar but meaningful generation won’t begin until late morning, the system can calculate the energy required to get the property through those early hours and intelligently set an overnight battery target.

That means:

⚡ Less unnecessary peak-rate grid consumption
☀️ Better utilisation of available solar
🔋 Smarter battery charging targets
📊 Decisions based on actual learned consumption
💷 Greater potential to reduce energy costs
🧠 A system that becomes better informed as it gathers more data

The objective isn’t simply automation.

It’s an energy management system that understands the installation it is controlling.

This is the direction we’re taking energy storage at Off-Grid Dynamics — combining professional system design, Victron hardware, Node-RED automation and AI-driven decision making.

Smart energy shouldn’t just react. It should learn, predict and plan.

⚡ AI-DRIVEN ENERGY MANAGEMENT — DESIGNED BY OFF-GRID DYNAMICS ⚡

We’re taking battery storage and solar control to the next level with our AI-driven ESS (Energy Storage System) design and 24-hour intelligent monitoring.

Rather than relying on a basic timer to decide when your battery charges, our system can use live system data and forecasts to make smarter decisions about how your energy is used.

☀️ Solar forecasting — predicts available solar energy and plans battery usage accordingly
🔋 Dynamic battery SOC targets — maintains enough stored energy when solar production is expected later in the day
⚡ Intelligent grid charging — charges from the grid when required rather than unnecessarily
🚗 EV integration & priority control — coordinates EV charging with the rest of the energy system
🧠 AI ESS decision making — automatically selects the most appropriate operating strategy
📊 24-hour monitoring — continuously monitors system conditions and performance
🛡️ Fallback control — conventional control logic remains available if AI or external data becomes unavailable

The aim is simple: use more of your own solar, reduce unnecessary grid consumption and make battery storage work intelligently around the property.

This is more than installing an inverter and batteries. Off-Grid Dynamics designs the control system behind them.

From Victron hardware and battery storage through to bespoke Node-RED automation, forecasting and AI integration, we can design a complete energy-management solution around the customer’s actual usage.

☀️ 21.47kWh of solar generated today! ⚡🔋

Another strong day for the Victron & Fogstar setup, producing 21.47kWh of clean energy from the sun.

☀️ Solar 1 — 11.90kWh
☀️ Solar 2 — 9.57kWh
⚡ Total — 21.47kWh

That’s 21.47kWh of energy that doesn’t need to be bought from the grid — helping to power the property and charge the battery system ready for later use.

This is exactly why we love being able to monitor these systems in real time. You can see exactly what your solar is producing, where the energy is going and how much grid consumption you’re avoiding.

Generate it. Store it. Use it when you need it. 🔋☀️

📊 DATA IS POWER — ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO ENERGY SYSTEMS ⚡🌡️

A modern solar and battery installation shouldn’t just generate and store energy — it should tell you exactly what’s happening throughout the system.

As part of this Victron installation, we’re monitoring temperatures at multiple critical points:

🌡️ Cerbo GX housing
🌡️ Lynx DC distribution trunking
🌡️ MPPT solar charger trunking
🌡️ Quattro inverter trunking
🌡️ Plant room temperature & humidity

Why collect all this data?

Because once you can measure it, you can control it.

The temperature data can be used by the Victron Cerbo GX and automation system to control external cooling and ventilation equipment automatically.

For example, as temperatures increase we can:

🔹 Start extraction or circulation fans
🔹 Increase cooling in stages as temperatures rise
🔹 Target cooling around specific equipment
🔹 Generate high-temperature warnings
🔹 Monitor temperature trends over time
🔹 Shut down or reduce loads if predetermined safety limits are reached

This means cooling doesn’t simply run 24/7. It can operate only when and where it’s required, improving efficiency while helping maintain the inverter, batteries, MPPTs and electrical distribution equipment within their preferred operating environment.

And the real advantage is visibility.

Instead of waiting for equipment to become excessively hot or for a fault to occur, we can see temperatures developing across different areas of the installation and use that information to make intelligent decisions automatically.

For us, system monitoring isn’t an optional extra.

Good data → Better control → Better protection → Better reliability.

⚡ Thinking about upgrading to a 48V lithium battery system? ⚡

A 48V system isn’t just for large homes anymore—it’s becoming the preferred choice for high-end motorhomes, campervans and off-grid installations. But is it the right option for you?

✅ Pros of 48V
• Lower current means smaller cables and less voltage drop.
• Higher efficiency with reduced heat losses.
• Easily powers large inverters (5kW–15kW+) for induction hobs, air conditioning, coffee machines and more.
• Faster charging from solar, mains and generators.
• Ideal for complete off-grid living.

⚠️ Things to consider
• Higher initial cost than 12V or 24V systems.
• Not all 12V appliances can be connected directly—you’ll usually need a quality DC-DC converter.
• Installation and commissioning require careful design to ensure safety and reliability.
• May be overkill if your power requirements are relatively small.

At Off Grid Dynamics, we design and install bespoke Victron Energy 48V systems that are built around your exact energy needs—whether you’re powering a weekend camper or a luxury motorhome designed for full-time off-grid living.
