Seawork 2026 is coming up fast.

From 9 to 11 June, the PB Asher team will be in Southampton for one of the key dates in the commercial marine calendar.

These events matter because the conversations are real. Maintenance planning. Engine overhaul requirements. Parts availability. Service response when timing is tight.

If you’re heading to Seawork this year, we’d be delighted to catch up and talk through your upcoming requirements, whether that’s onboard support, workshop engineering, or parts supply.

See you in Southampton.

Apprentices, this is your reminder!

Applications for Apprentice Week at PB Asher close this week on 29 May.

If you want a proper look at marine engineering, this is your chance to spend time with engineers who work on real engines, real components, and real overhaul projects every day.

Good engineering careers start with strong foundations, practical exposure, and time alongside people who know the job properly.

Apprentice Week runs from 30 June to 2 July, and we’ll be selecting a small number of candidates from that week to begin apprenticeships in September at Southampton City College.

To be considered, send your CV and covering letter to [email protected]

Confidence in parts matters.

Every component going back into an engine carries responsibility. Performance, reliability, and long-term condition all depend on getting that decision right.

PB Asher has long supported customers with genuine OEM and specialist parts supply across marine engine projects. With MD Trade partnering across PB Asher and Engine Assist, that support now sits even closer to the engineering and workshop teams delivering the work.

So what does that mean for PB Asher customers?
→ Stronger alignment between parts supply and engineering activity
→ Greater confidence in component selection for key engine platforms
→ Faster communication between sourcing, workshop, and field teams
→ Clear visibility from supply through to installation

The result is straightforward.

Parts arrive with context.
Engineering follows with clarity.

Because reliable performance starts long before installation.

If you’re reviewing parts requirements for upcoming work, we’re ready to support.

The 5-Minute Fuel System Check That Prevents Bigger Problems.

Start here:
→ Check exhaust temperatures across cylinders
Uneven readings often point to an imbalance in combustion

→ Look for fuel leaks or damp connections
Small leaks highlight early sealing or component issues

→ Listen for irregular combustion knock
Changes in sound often show up before performance drops

→ Watch fuel rack movement
It should stay smooth and consistent across the range

→ Review recent fuel consumption
Small increases usually signal something starting to drift

These checks take minutes.
The impact lasts much longer.

The IMO estimates inefficient combustion can increase fuel consumption by up to 10 percent, so small signals are worth paying attention to early.

At PB Asher, this is where many issues start. Not sudden failure, but systems moving slightly out of balance.

If you are running routine rounds, these are the details that keep engines operating properly.

When timing matters, having the right support in place makes the difference.

Engine work often runs to tight schedules, with parts, engineers, and workshop activity all needing to line up to keep the job moving.

That’s where strong coordination matters.

PB Asher has long supported customers with parts supply, engineering response, and workshop capability across complex engine projects. With MD Trade partnering across PB Asher and Engine Assist, that support becomes more closely connected from the outset.

So what does that mean for PB Asher customers?
→ Closer coordination between parts, workshop, and field engineering teams
→ Faster communication across every stage of the job
→ Responsive support when vessel schedules are under pressure
→ Greater alignment between planning, supply, and engineering activity

Reliable engine performance depends on preparation, coordination, and having the right capability ready when it’s needed.

The truth is, the strongest projects are usually the ones where engineering, workshop activity, and supply support work together from day one.

If you’re planning upcoming maintenance or overhaul work, it’s worth starting those conversations early.

When a vessel goes down, it’s rarely bad luck.
It’s usually missed signals.

Engines show problems early.
You see it in temperature drift, pressure changes, and small performance shifts that stay within limits but point to something developing.

Those signals get logged, ticked off, and left where they are, rather than being read together as a clear view of engine condition.

That’s where issues build.

A small deviation turns into a bigger fault.
It grows into downtime, a wider repair scope, and real pressure when the schedule is already tight.

Good engineering keeps that visible.
Regular inspection, proper data review, and engineers who understand engine behaviour keep problems controlled and planned.

At PB Asher, that’s the focus.
Inspection, workshop assessment, and field support that keep engines running as they should.

Are you spotting the signs early, or picking them up once the job gets bigger?

We've wanted a base of operations in Rotterdam for many years. The reason it's only happening now is simple, we needed to find people who operate the way we do. Same standards, same work ethic, same drive to build something properly.

We found them in Engine Assist B.V..

[ de Goederen] started Engine Assist in 2015, after years working for himself as an engineer. His family built it alongside him. Sonja and [ de Nijs] are still there, running things to the standard their customers expect.

Family run, like us. The same values, strong work ethic and the same hunger to grow. Those things matter more than most people admit when you're deciding who to work with long term.

Watch the video and hear it from the team.

Working on a 35m research vessel means everything has to line up, and there’s not much room for things to slip.

PB Asher attended the vessel for major works on a Wärtsilä 6L20, with the scope including injector work, turbocharger overhaul, charge air cooler servicing, cylinder head work, and planned 2000h and 4000h maintenance activities.

It was a broad project.
Not a single service task.

The truth is, jobs like this succeed through coordination as much as engineering.

Workshop activity, onboard labour, parts supply, and vessel schedules all need to stay aligned to keep the project moving at pace.

So the team handled the work as one controlled operation.
→ Major components removed, overhauled, and rebuilt through the PB Asher workshop
→ Planned 2000h and 4000h maintenance completed alongside wider engine works
→ All required parts supplied directly by PB Asher
→ Onboard work coordinated around the vessel schedule
→ Key systems inspected across liners, pistons, bearings, and cooling circuits
→ Rebuild completed with calibrated components ready for service

The result?

Smooth coordination between workshop and vessel teams.
Clear control across the full scope.
Reliable turnaround from strip-down to restart.

Because on projects like this, engineering quality matters at every stage. So does the flow between them.
