Why Correct Pump Specification Prevents Call-Backs...

Correct pump specification can make a significant difference to long-term system reliability - particularly on borehole, booster, and private water supply systems.
Oversized pumps can lead to excessive cycling, pressure fluctuations, and unnecessary wear on system components.

Undersized pumps may struggle to meet demand during periods of higher usage, especially through spring and summer. A few things worth considering during specification:

• Required flow and pressure
• Pipework sizing and losses
• Borehole yield and recovery rates
• Storage capacity
• Duty cycle and expected usage patterns

Getting the specification right from the start can help reduce call-backs, improve efficiency, and extend system lifespan.

If you need help selecting pumps, pressure vessels or controls for a project, we are always happy to help.

Inside a Typical Borehole Booster Setup...

A correctly designed borehole booster system is about more than just the pump itself.

System reliability often comes down to how well the individual components work together.

A typical setup may include:

• Borehole pump
• Pressure vessel
• Pressure switch or controller
• Dry-run protection
• non-return valves
• Filtration and treatment equipment
• Storage tanks where required

Correct sizing and setup can help improve pressure stability, reduce pump cycling and minimise unnecessary wear on the system. Every installation is different, particularly on private water supplies where demand, borehole yield and storage requirements can vary significantly.

If you need help specifying borehole pumps, booster systems or controls, we are always happy to help.

5 Common Causes of Low Water Pressure...

Low water pressure can have a number of different causes, particularly on borehole, booster, and private water supply systems.

Some of the most common issues we see include:

• Incorrect pressure vessel pre-charge
• Blocked filters or strainers
• Undersized pipework
• Worn or incorrectly specified pumps
• Pressure switch or controller issues

In many cases, pressure problems gradually worsen over time rather than appearing suddenly - especially during periods of higher seasonal demand.
Correct system sizing, servicing, and fault finding can make a significant difference to long-term system performance and reliability.

If you need help specifying replacement pumps, pressure vessels or controls, we are always happy to help.

Why More Farms Are Looking at Solar Pumping...

More farms and rural sites are starting to look at solar pumping systems - particularly for remote water supply, livestock watering, and areas where mains power is difficult or expensive to install.

With longer daylight hours through spring and summer, solar can be a practical option for a wide range of applications.

We’re seeing growing interest in:

• Livestock watering
• Borehole pumping
• Remote tanks and troughs
• Irrigation supply
• Off-grid water systems

Correct system sizing and storage design are still key to long-term reliability, especially where water demand varies seasonally.

If you need help specifying solar pumping systems or compatible borehole pumps and controls, we are always happy to help.

Trade Tip: Avoid Dry Running on Borehole Pumps

Dry running is one of the most common causes of premature borehole pump failure - especially on systems with fluctuating water levels or inadequate protection.

It only takes a short period of running without water to risk damaging pump components and reducing service life.

A few things worth checking during installation or servicing:

• Dry-run protection settings
• Float switches and level controls
• Probe positioning
• Recovery rates on low-yield boreholes
• Signs of intermittent cycling or loss of flow

Correct protection setup can help prevent unnecessary breakdowns and expensive replacements later on.

If you need help specifying borehole pumps, controls or protection systems, we are always happy to help.

Is Your Customer’s Water System Ready for Summer Demand?

As water usage starts increasing through late spring and into summer, this is often when underlying system issues begin to show up.

Low pressure, pump cycling, undersized vessels, and ageing controls can all lead to unnecessary call-backs once systems come under heavier demand.

A few checks now can help avoid problems later in the season:

• Pressure vessel pre-charge
• Pump cycling frequency
• Pressure switch settings
• Tank storage capacity
• Signs of fluctuating pressure or dry running

This is especially important on borehole, booster, and private water supply systems where seasonal demand can change significantly.

If you need help specifying replacement pumps, pressure vessels or controls, we always happy to help.
