FIXTURE UPDATE 🚀
This might be my favourite improvement this year!
We’ve assembled last week’s creation into a homemade trunnion, and it’s a real step forward for this job. What started many years ago as a low‑volume part has traditionally been produced by opping out and turning the component four times. As our customer has grown, so has demand — and it was time to take production up a gear.
Once complete, this setup will allow our skilled machinist to load the trunnion, press go, and move over to another machine to run simultaneously. A big win for efficiency and productivity.
✅ OP1 almost complete

Clearance is clearance and all that!! This fixture is part of an ongoing project (stay tuned for more updates) that required precise spigot alignment on both ends, and it fit perfectly on our CMX70U. Exactly why we invested in this machine! workholding is also great !

I printed this drawing off today and it made me think—this year marks 20 years since we lost Philip Thackray (my dad).
This is one of his rather “crap” drawings that we still use today!! We could redraw it on CAD, but I quite like seeing his handwriting on things. It makes me feel proud that we’re still doing work for customers he won many years ago.
And this is for what is maybe the simplest part we’ve ever made!!
Thanks for getting in with Simba all those years ago, Dad!!
As I come across more drawings like this, I’ll be sure to post them throughout the year.
