Ermysted's Old Boys' Society

Ermysted's Old Boys' Society Old Boys' Society for Ermysted's Grammar School, Skipton. Registered Charity Number 1203733. The Old Boys are proud of the school.

Ermysted’s Grammar School’s long history, coupled with the loyalty it inspires amongst its pupils both past and present, means we have an extremely active Old Boys' Society. We take a keen interest in the progress of the school and also contribute financially through fundraising to support the school’s development – for example helping with the cost of new buildings, refurbishment and the purchase

of equipment. We enjoy hearing of its academic successes, its sporting and musical achievement, its drama activities and its rich variety of trips and foreign excursions. Our experiences and reminiscences help to draw a picture of a school that has developed throughout the 20th Century into one of the UK’s top grammar schools. The varied achievements of Old Boys of the school throughout history highlight the fine teaching and strong discipline that inspired boys to succeed.

We are really sad to share the news that Mrs Gracie has passed away at the age of 100.

It was a delight to welcome her back to Ermysted’s last autumn to celebrate her milestone birthday and hear stories from her many years working at our school between 1969 and 1991. She was much loved by pupils and colleagues, and was integral to the running of the school over a sustained period of time.

Our thoughts are with Eileen’s family and friends at this sad time. Rest In Peace, Mrs Gracie 🤍

A celebration of Eileen’s long life will take place at the Baptist Church, Skipton on Tuesday 19th May at 1pm, followed by private interment.

Well done to the 3 Old Boys who were among the first 20 finishers at Skipton parkrun this morning - Andrew Maclean (2001-08) was 4th, Rob Grillo (1985-87) 11th, and Roger Humphreys (1972-79 and later a languages teacher at EGS!) in 17th place.

A special mention too for 'Honorary Old Boy' Catherine White, who taught English at EGS for several years - she finished 20th!

Sadly we were well beaten by the current crop of Ermystedsgrammarschool Crosscountry runners.. with EGS pupils finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 15th!
