Successful MOB Trial at Langdale Leads to Permanent Installation

Great news for the future of MOB (Mobile Organic Biofilm) technology.

Following a successful 12-month trial at Langdale, United Utilities has confirmed MOB technology will now be permanently installed on site - a major milestone and a strong endorsement of the technology’s operational performance and effectiveness.

As momentum around MOB continues to grow across the water sector, we’re looking forward to continuing conversations across the industry about how MOB can support enhanced treatment performance while maximising existing infrastructure.

Join Bob Hastings - Business Development Manager, together with our partners Nuvoda, at the European Wastewater Management Conference & Exhibition at the Telford International Centre on 16–17 June 2026, Booth #36.

We’ll be ready to talk all things MOB (Mobile Organic Biofilm), including how the technology can help deliver efficient, sustainable outcomes while making the most of existing assets and infrastructure.

We’re particularly keen to connect with companies looking to maximise existing infrastructure and deliver efficient, sustainable outcomes.

ACWA Services Appointed to Anglian Water’s AMP8–9 Nitrate Removal Framework

ACWA Services is delighted to announce our appointment to Anglian Water’s new Nitrate Removal Framework, supporting a programme of key treatment schemes across the region. This multi-year framework represents a significant investment in water quality and resilience, and we are proud to play a central role in its delivery.

Our selection reflects ACWA’s proven capability in advanced nitrate-removal technologies, particularly our Nitreat® Ion Exchange system. Nitreat® offers high operational efficiency, low waste production, and robust performance in nitrate-vulnerable zones, supporting utilities in meeting tightening regulatory and environmental requirements.

Dominic Hurd, Managing Director of ACWA Services, commented: “We are extremely proud to have been selected for this important framework. Anglian Water has set a strong vision for water quality and long-term resilience, and we are thrilled that our Nitreat® technology and our engineering expertise will contribute to achieving that ambition. This award is a testament to the capability, dedication and innovation shown by our entire team.”

This framework creates a strong platform for long-term partnership, innovation and delivery excellence as we support Anglian Water through the AMP 8 and AMP 9 periods.

Here’s to advancing safe, sustainable water for communities across the region.

We’re delighted to announce that ACWA has been awarded a £3.7m contract by MMB, on behalf of Yorkshire Water, for nitrate reduction works at Haisthorpe Water Treatment Works.

The project will address a Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) compliance requirement by reducing the risk of nitrate in the treated water supply. ACWA will be responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a process solution to ensure the treated and blended water nitrate concentration does not exceed 42 mg/l at a design flow of 33.12 MLD.

This project will play a vital role in safeguarding water quality and supporting long-term regulatory compliance for customers served by Haisthorpe WTW. A great example of collaboration delivering real environmental and public health benefits.

Dominic Hurd, ACWA’s Managing Director said, ‘This project is a great example of ACWA’s strength in delivering complex treatment solutions that protect water quality and ensure regulatory compliance. We’re pleased to be working with MMB and Yorkshire Water to deliver a robust and sustainable nitrate reduction process at Haisthorpe.’

World Water Day 2026
This Sunday 22nd March marks World Water Day — a global moment to recognise the vital role of safe water in creating healthier, more equitable communities.

Despite progress, 2.1 billion people still live without access to safe water. This year’s theme, ‘Water and Gender’, highlights how water and sanitation are essential not only for health, but also for dignity, equality and opportunity.

Since 2000, 2.2 billion people have gained access to safely managed drinking water — real progress, but there is still much to do.

Join WaterAid’s upcoming webinar to hear how the sector is working to ensure safe, dignified care for every woman, every birth.

A team from ACWA Services Ltd recently visited PuriTech Ltd in Belgium to witness the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of a new IEX valve destined for an existing UK nitrate removal plant.

During the visit we saw the valve progress from individual components through to the fully assembled unit, followed by full functional testing by the PuriTech engineering team.

The visit also provided the opportunity to discuss manufacturing capacity and procurement planning as the UK water industry prepares for significant nitrate reduction investment in AMP8.

PuriTech’s IEX valve technology sits at the heart of ACWA’s NITREAT® nitrate removal solution, and collaboration between our teams continues to play an important role in delivering reliable treatment systems for water companies across the UK.

A valuable and productive visit — and another step in strengthening the long-standing relationship between ACWA and PuriTech.
