Completing an apprenticeship is a huge achievement, especially in a fast-paced engineering environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn.

Congratulations to one of our apprentices Nathan Johnson on successfully completing his apprenticeship here at ASCO 👏

Since joining the business, he has developed experience across CNC turning, milling, laser operations and thermal spray processes, building strong technical knowledge and practical machining skills along the way.

A key area of progression has been CNC programming, machine set-up and producing complex precision components to customer requirements, something he highlighted as one of the parts of the role he enjoys most.

When reflecting on his apprenticeship journey, he spoke about the opportunities it has opened up for the future within engineering and manufacturing, as well as the support he received from colleagues throughout the process.

It’s great to see the confidence, technical ability and progression developed over the course of the apprenticeship, and we look forward to seeing where his engineering career takes him next.

A big milestone moment for one of our own 👏

We’re proud to share that Reece Fawcett has now successfully completed his apprenticeship with us at ASCO Engineering Ltd.

Reece joined us through West Lancashire College, choosing the apprenticeship route to gain real, hands-on experience while learning and earning, and he’s made the most of every opportunity since day one.

Over the course of his apprenticeship, Reece has developed strong skills in precision machining, machine set-up, and operating multiple grinding machines. Like many apprentices, his journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Initially, grinding wasn’t the path he expected to take, but with the support of the team, additional training (including abrasive wheels), and time to build confidence, he’s grown into the role and is now thriving.

A great example of resilience and trusting the process.

Reece credits a lot of his development to the support around him, particularly Eric Tyrer (Operations Manager) and Paul Muir (Grinding Supervisor), along with the wider team.

When asked what he’s most proud of - completing his End Point Assessment (EPA) stands out.

Looking ahead, Reece hopes to continue his development with plans to complete his HNC, while focusing on improving accuracy and continuing to build his expertise.

For anyone considering an apprenticeship, Reece’s message is simple:
“This is the best route you can take, getting experience whilst getting paid and gaining engineering skills which are highly sought after.”

Well done Reece! A brilliant achievement and a great future ahead 💪

Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week!!

At Asco Engineering Ltd we currently have 7 apprentices on site developing skills in CNC machining, turning, grinding, inspection, and mechatronics, and it’s great to see the next generation building real, practical experience alongside experienced colleagues.

Apprenticeships play such an important role in strengthening our industry, developing confidence, and creating long-term career opportunities. Strong workplaces are built by people investing in people.

A big thank you to everyone involved in supporting and mentoring our apprentices. Your time and commitment really does make a difference.
