🚨 EMF Survey Alert 🚨

Yesterday Johnson & Allen employees Simon Johnson and Kurt Screen conducted an EMF survey on the MPI bench units, demagnetizers and yokes at a local NDT training school - Argyll Ruane are a globally known and industry respected name who value the safety of both their staff and students.

With the rise of electromagnetic field exposure in various industries, it's crucial for organisations to stay on top of EMF safety. The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations (CEMFAW) 2016 are clear - Protecting workers from the potential risks of EMF exposure is not just a guideline; it’s a requirement.

While there are still no proven long term health effects associated with radiation of this type for persons not at increased risk, operators could experience sensory effects like retinal phosphenes – A sensation of seeing patterns caused by the optic nerve being stimulated by EMF. Operators should be aware of the potential for these sensory effects by law.

However, for persons fitted with active medical implants like pace makers and hormone pumps the risks are understandably far greater.

⚠ Persons considered at increased risk include:

• Anyone fitted with an active medical implant like a pace maker or hormone pump.

• General public and non-operators.

• Pregnant women – While there is no proven link between EMF of this type and foetal development, pregnant women are included while research continues.

Ensuring EMF safety is essential for any workplace - Especially one that involves equipment like MPI bench units. The good news is that compliance can be as simple as introducing training, exlcuding non-operators from an area and displaying high EMF signage.
