While making some 3D models for the website we discovered the Augmented Reality export feature in Adobe Dimension and decided to have an explore. A quick upload to the tablet and we're able to look and walk around the model! What an amazing tool to have at your fingertips.
The product shown is a custom fabricated heavy duty 20mm bracket used to fix Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GRC) panels either to the internal or external of a building. Being able to walk around the bracket really shows how the system works.

Datem are one of the world leaders in CPT systems (cone pe*******on test). Their units are used for acquiring the properties of the soil, cable routes and gas pipelines under the sea. Sometimes this can be up to 3000 metres below sea level. The majority of the components for their products are made from stainless steel and we at Stainless UK manufacture and supply the back plate for both the Neptune 3000 and Neptune 5000 systems.
The two grades of stainless steel that we normally use in our manufacturing process are 304 and 316. In this project stainless steel grade 316 is the choice as it has a higher corrosion resistance and so is suitable in salt water applications. The main difference between the two grades is the presence of molybdenum and increased nickel content in grade 316 both improve the resistance.
Stainless 304 consists of 18% chromium and 8% nickel.
Stainless 316 consists of 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum.

There’s been some interesting news last week on twitter that has made the national papers. It’s about the strengthening of country bridges so they can take vehicle loads of 40 tonnes for HGVs. The twitter post by Paul Whitewick shows what can only be described as barbaric vandalism to a beautiful stone bridge. They’ve basically backfilled the underside of the bridge with concrete and probably hardcore. After reading the follow up Times article it appears there may be more bridges under threat too.

There is no need to ruin the British countryside like this. There are quite a few lasting and proper solutions that can be used to strengthen bridges which are far more attractive. To name a few there are externally bonding polymers or steel, post tensioning systems, fiber reinforced cementitious matrix, column retrofitting and near-surface-mounting reinforcement systems.

Stainless UK supplies stainless steel rebar that can be used to strengthen bridges using the column retrofitting and the near-surface-mounting method. We have in stock a selection of sizes from 6mm up to 40mm rebar in grades 304, which is mainly used inland and 316, which is used in more coastal areas but is ideal for highways where grit salt is used. We also can cut and fabricate sheet and plate stainless steel in these grades too.

The solution below is an example of using rebar fixed inside the bridge structure with a resin and then pointed. The visual impact would have been minimal.

N.B. As with all strengthening work the proper structural requirements and specification would have to be calculated up by an engineer.

Sunset House, Situated directly on the Cliff edge, is one of St Ives most iconic properties. A landslip had occurred during the construction phase of this residential building. Georats Ltd. were contracted to design and install slope stabilization.

The solution was to install 110 injection anchors up to 6m deep with a diameter of 90mm. Stainless UK supplied R32 marine grade 316 hollow injection anchors which were install to the full 6m depth and then grouted down hole. Finally 32 tonnes of shotcrete was hand sprayed onto the slope to a minimum thickness of 150mm

We are proud to announce we have installed one of the first Esprit 10kW Fiber Laser Cutting Machines in the UK. The state of the art machine will sit alongside our existing 6kw Laser.
The new Fiber Laser Cutting CNC machine will reduce production times with it's staggering vector speeds of 325m/min, cut 30mm stainless steel sheets and create precision cuts and holes down to 2.5mm, further increasing the services we can offer our customers.
