Erith Quarry Project Series Part 1 | Hang-Off Balconies 🏗️

Rather than resting on a separate supporting frame, these balconies are hung directly off the main structure.

Every balcony is fully engineered to the required structural loading and safety standards so that residents get outdoor space that's as strong and secure as it looks.

Our team designed, fabricated and installed 18 hang-off balconies, matched to the existing structure and finished to spec.

Wakefield Civic Quarter, The Series: Part 6📍

Terrace mild steel balustrades for the upper-floor balconies

Designed to feel solid and well-proportioned, they define the edges of the terraces while allowing the balconies themselves to remain open and usable. A simple but effective detail that contributes to the character of the upper levels and ties in with the other works we have completed across the project.

Nearing completion at Erith Quarry Parcel 9. Our team is putting the finishing touches on a full package of works, including:

- Hang off balconies inclusive of fascia balustrade and aluminium decking
- External balcony steelwork and balustrades with mild steel copings to parapet wall
- Soffits and guttering
- Internal stair balustrade and wall rail
- Privacy screens
- Internal AOV

Bidfood project update 🛠️

The external platforms are now complete, combining hard-wearing durbar walkways with secure key clamp balustrades to deliver safe, long-lasting access.

This system was designed with compliance built in from the start, not something to sort out at sign-off 🙅🏼‍♀️

Our team installed the external canopy and flashings at Handsworth School, creating a sheltered, welcoming entrance while keeping the outdoor look light and open. Thoughtful design and careful installation mean students and visitors can enjoy a safe, inviting space right from the moment they arrive.

20 metres of galvanised balustrade installed at AMP Waverley 🔍

A lot of rooftop balustrade jobs skip the mid rail. A top rail on its own might look finished but it leaves a gap big enough to fall through. That misses the whole point of the barrier.

This system was built with top and mid rails throughout, assembled using Kee Clamp fittings rated for the load. The galvanised finish is specified for rooftop exposure so there's no corrosion, no maintenance cycles and nothing to come back and fix.

A well-earned mention for two members of the K-Fix team: Liam and Sophie completed this year's Great North Run in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust 💜

Their motivation is a personal one. Their son Alfie was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a newborn back in 2020, and six years on he's thriving thanks to new modulator therapy drugs supported by CF research and care.

It's a cause close to home in more ways than one as K-Fix itself exists because of Alfie. While he was still in hospital as a newborn, Liam took a call from his employer at the time that offered him no support. That moment was the push he needed to step out on his own and build something better.

Liam and Sophie completed 13.1 miles to help fund the research and care that makes stories like Alfie's possible, and between them they've already smashed their £500 target.

Handsworth School | External Handrails & Balustrades 🏫

We crafted and installed several bespoke external balustrades and handrails. Each piece was carefully designed to fit the school’s unique architecture, ensuring a seamless finish that is both functional and visually appealing, as well as weather-proof.

Before you sign off a metalwork installation on site, here are 5 things worth checking

1. Have the fixings been torqued? Confirm all fixings have been torqued to the correct specification. A balustrade that looks secure isn't always one that is.
2. Has the finish been checked? Inspect for any damage, inconsistency or missed areas before the client sees it. Much easier to address before handover than after.
3. Has it been load tested? Confirm the installation has been load rated to the required standard. Non-negotiable for anything carrying people.
4. Have the gaps been measured? Infill gaps should be checked against building regulations. BS 6180 sets the maximum opening sizes. If it's out, it fails.
5. Has the sign-off form been completed? Get it in writing. A completed sign-off form protects everyone on the project.

Miss one of these and the handover gets complicated. Get them all right and the job is done properly.
