Haul road and trackway installation work continues on the EGL1 project, providing safe access for Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and related construction activities.

This forms part of the HDD programme supporting EGL1, a major HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) infrastructure development delivered by SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission.

The joint venture project will provide a 2GW HVDC connection between Scotland and England, strengthening the UK’s electricity transmission network and supporting long-term energy resilience.

Another HDD has been completed, with our team delivering a 100-metre Horizontal Directional Drilling shot and installing 2 x 315 mm ducts.

The drill involved crossing a watercourse, with the full HDD operation completed within 7 days.

Trenching works are underway on a new section of the EGL1 project, involving the installation of two 250mm ducts and two 25mm ducts as part of the cable installation scope.

EGL1 is a joint venture between SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission, delivering a 2GW HVDC connection between Scotland and England to help strengthen the United Kingdom’s clean energy infrastructure and future electricity network.

Works are progressing on a 300-metre Horizontal Directional Drilling shot involving the installation of two 315 mm ducts.

This technically demanding drill crosses both a watercourse and a road, requiring careful planning and controlled ex*****on throughout the operation.

Our Ditch Witch UK & Ireland AT120 drilling rig is being deployed for the works, supporting the team in delivering the crossing safely and efficiently.

Work is underway at one of the most strategically significant drill locations on the EGL2 project, situated in a highly environmentally sensitive area.
The HDD consists of three separate drill shots – A, B and C – each approximately 100 metres in length, with two 315 mm ducts to be installed within each drill shot.

The works involve crossing a major canal in an area of significant environmental importance, requiring careful planning, specialist HDD expertise, and strict environmental controls throughout delivery.
