Our Story
Unison Ltd was founded in 1973 by Terry Pickering to design and build computerised control systems for industry. Unison Ltd was responsible for the first computer controls for several well-known tube bending machine manufacturers throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The subsequent decision to design and develop our own full range of tube bending machines saw Unison Ltd reach new heights. In 1993, shortly after Alan Pickering (pictured right) joined the business, work commenced on developing a revolutionary fully automated solution. The team’s efforts were rewarded in 1994 with the release of the first ‘all-electric’ tube bending machine. Alan Pickering assumed the responsibilities of managing director in 2006, and has overseen Unison continue to increase its product portfolio.
Since 1994 we have continued to lead the tube bending market through product enhancements and by providing innovative solutions to challenging production problems. Innovation and problem solving is at the heart of what we do and collaborating with our customers has provided the catalyst to innovation; our R & D team relishes the challenge especially when other manufacturers say it can’t be done! We are particularly proud of the team’s ability to push the technical boundaries whether this is the manufacture of the world’s largest all-electric bending machine, or an integrated software solution helping to deskill the ‘black art’ of tube bending. Our desire to innovate and not merely copy others has rewarded us with a global reputation for solving the most challenging customer problems. 2015 was an exciting & busy year for us. We opened a dedicated design consultancy service in Manchester specialising in advanced automation, integration and robotics (Ingenium Integration). This was followed by the opening of our US sales and support office in Asheville, North Carolina, to provide on-the-ground support to our US customers and distributor network across North America. Our strong growth in export sales was also officially recognised during 2015 with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, marking a defining moment in the company’s history. So what will the future hold? We are determined to continue to develop and invest in leading edge technology and to work closely with our commercial partners to ensure you receive the best the industry can offer. We are growing our team across North America to guarantee we maintain our unrivalled reputation for service and support.
