FIRST LOOK! Sprogley Motorsport Rear Brake Cooling Kit - BMW F8X 🏁🤘🏼

Another solid product being added to our line up of functional, track tested products for the F8X BMW platform, is our new F8X Rear brake cooling kit (currently for blue calipers only).

Highlights

Rear brake temperatures on this platform seem to have very mixed opinions. Some say the rear never gets that hot, others say they burn through rear pads. How better to find out what’s what than with a… you guessed it…. TEST.

It’s common knowledge that a backing plate cannot be used on the rear of this platform. There are some ‘interesting’ attempts out there at a solution for the rear, so we thought we would have a crack at our own ‘interesting’ attempt, get on track and see what happens.

Testing conditions were horrible. From monsoon to dry and sunny, our test day at Snetterton looked like a wasted trip, but even at an overall slower pace than usual on road tyres, we came away with a surprising rear Caliper temperature reduction of 15.4%, during a session with TC fully off. Considering our AP Caliper scoops are achieving around 20% cooling, that’s pretty good going I would say! I would expect an even better result on a hot dry day.

This rear kit is a nice bolt on solution, completely reversible, and even more straightforward to fit than the front kit. The scoop feeds air to the back of the caliper, which cools the caliper, brake fluid and pads.

As is the case with most of our products, it’s unique and original, and properly works. Will we see this design copied in due course? Maybe! But until then, you can now pre order the F8X rear brake cooling kit on our website. Half the team is away in Germany at the moment, so looking at a couple of weeks to build up stock for dispatch.

Just how is it to live with our AP caliper cooling scoops…?

If you’ve had your eyes on our AP caliper cooling scoops but were unsure on how feasible it would be to run them on a car that’s used on the road and track, this should answer all your questions!

The whole kit can be used, fitted and removed in a number of ways, meaning you can get the most out of our brake cooling products on track, without the hassle when it comes to driving home again afterwards. Our own M2 is used all year round, so a product that is convenient to use was just as important as a product that performed. We have delivered just that.

This has to be one of the coolest, most interesting cars we’ve worked with! 🤩

To some people, an ‘off-road’ Lamborghini may not make a lot of sense, but when you think about it, you get one of the coolest, most interesting looking cars to wear the badge, with one of the best sounding engines, in an extremely usable package. UK road proof, extra comfort, mega rare, and an unreal colour. I’m sold!

Fan-boying aside, this was a nice simple remote 3D scanning job for another company. Scanning a roof isn’t the easiest thing in the world so a bit of time was taken to apply markers and paint / PPF safe prep to achieve nice clean scan so the customer has some good usable data for their project 👌🏼

AP Pro5000r Caliper Coolong Scoop by Sprogley Motorsport

This product is a literal game changer to the motorsport and track day market - top end race car kit brought to the enthusiast.

Our caliper cooling scoop is designed to fit the very popular AP Pro5000r CP9660 caliper, found in many kits including the BTCC kit. Our in-house designed brackets not only allow the mounting of the scoop, but work in conjunction with anti rattle springs, with no modifications of any kind needed.

The scoop itself is made in an extremely high temperature, carbon infused thermoplastic, typically found at the very top of motorsport and aerospace. It then undergoes extensive post processing, resulting in a product that can withstand temperatures up to 270 degrees C.

This product has taken months of development and testing, to ensure it fits and performs as a proper motorsport product should. We recorded a 16% reduction in brake disk temperatures and 20% reduction in brake caliper temperatures, when fitted to our BMW M2 development car.

As with all Sprogley Motorsport products, this part is designed, tested and manufactured entirely in house, by us, in the UK.

Crazy results from our brake cooling testing! 🥶

We spent the day testing our new brake cooling products - The updated X Sprogley lower arm scoop and backing plate kit for the BMW F8X platform, and our all new AP Pro5000r caliper cooling scoop.

The results are in, and they are massive!!!

Lower control arm scoop to backing plate kit - 28% better cooling to the disk and 8% better cooling to the brake caliper!

Lower control arm scoop to the AP caliper cooling scoop - 16% better cooling to the disk and 20% better cooling to the caliper!

This is a fantastic result for our products, which results in not only better braking performance for longer on track, but longer lasting disks and pads which will save money in the long term.

The best bit, these products can be run together for even better results! We will be heading back to the track at some point once we have 2 air feeds for both products, but for now, our F8X lower arm scoops did a fantastic job.
