Providing composites manufacturers with the highest quality silicone, spray machines, ancillaries and world class training. NEW VPI MOULDING TECHNOLOGY
If you are a general ftp/grp moulder using hand lay or spray up techniques you would benefit to learn of a new faster way to mould using our VPI (Vacuum Pressure Infusion) technique. This is where a measured shot of resin is simply poured over t

he fibre pack followed by replacing the reusable vacuum bag and allowing vacuum to 100% complete the laminating. Very fast laminating speeds and virtually zero wastage are common attractive features of this process.

Repeatability is not added at the end.

It is built into the process.

Final inspection matters. It helps identify whether a part meets the required standard.

But inspection cannot create repeatability by itself.

The result is shaped earlier by practical production variables:

- materials
- handling
- tooling
- training
- resin/process control
- method
- process sequence

For suitable applications, fiRST Technology can support a more controlled approach to composite production by helping manufacturers think about repeatable steps before the part reaches inspection.

Good composite production starts before the first part is made.

Inspection still matters, but it should not be the first point of control. Many production issues begin much earlier, during planning, preparation and set-up.

Before production starts, the team needs clarity on:

- the method
- the materials
- the tooling
- the handling steps
- the process sequence
- the training required
- what a good result should look like

When these points are unclear, the workshop may only discover the problem after the part has been produced. By then, the options are often rework, delay or rejection.

Getting the early steps right gives the team a stronger foundation for more consistent production.

Where could margin be disappearing in your composite production process?

It is not always the obvious costs that cause the problem.

In many workshops, hidden waste appears through small, repeated issues: extra consumables, excess resin, offcuts, scrap, rejected parts, rework, extra handling and time spent solving the same production problems again and again.

These costs can easily become accepted as part of normal production. But over repeat work, they can quietly affect margin and make jobs harder to plan accurately.

The useful first step is to look closely at the process itself.

Where is variation entering the job? Where are materials being used unnecessarily? Where is time being lost? Which steps depend too heavily on manual correction?

Better process control can help manufacturers understand where waste is being created and where practical improvements may be possible.

Talk to AHC about where waste may be hiding in your composite production process.

Aidan has been on site in Slovenia with AMT Projekt d.o.o. for practical silicone membrane producer training.

AMT Projekt d.o.o. already uses silicone membranes to produce composite parts. Their next step was to build more internal capability around manufacturing their own silicone membranes.

The visit focused on hands-on training, process guidance and certification as silicone membrane producers, helping the team develop the knowledge needed to manage this part of the process within their own production environment.

For manufacturers, successful technology adoption is not only about the materials or equipment in use. It is also about people, process understanding and the confidence to apply that knowledge correctly.

Thank you to the AMT Projekt d.o.o. team for welcoming Aidan and for their commitment to developing practical in-house capability.

Get in touch with AHC to discuss silicone membrane training, implementation support or the next step for your production team.

From hand lay-up to reusable silicone membrane infusion: a clear step towards better process control

For many composite manufacturers, one of the biggest challenges with hand lay-up is not only the material usage, but the lack of consistency from one part to the next.

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Andre from The Composite Company Plymouth to our facility to support their first trials with reusable silicone membrane infusion.

The goal was simple: help them explore a more controlled, repeatable and efficient way to manufacture their parts.

The comparison was clear:

Hand lay-up part: ~3.8 kg of resin
Infused part: 1.8 kg of resin

That is a significant reduction in resin consumption, alongside improved process control and greater repeatability.

For The Composite Company Plymouth, this first trial represents an important step towards a cleaner, more predictable and more cost-efficient production process.

Because in composites manufacturing, consistency is more than a technical advantage.

It is what allows companies to improve quality, reduce waste, control costs and price their parts with confidence.

A great first result, and a pleasure to support Andre and his team on this transition.

Our experience at JEC World 2026 in Paris was truly remarkable.

Over the course of the event, we had the chance to reconnect with long-time clients and friends, strengthen existing partnerships, and meet new people who share our vision for the future of the composites industry.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who visited our booth. The conversations, ideas, and experiences we shared made this event even more meaningful.

This also marks a new chapter for us. With Aidan and André leading the way, we proudly continue the legacy built over the past 14 years — focused on innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement in composite manufacturing.

Our goal is not only to improve production processes, but also to contribute to a better world: reducing waste, minimizing environmental impact, and making better use of time and resources.

Thank you once again to everyone who was part of this journey with us. We are excited about what lies ahead and ready to turn the opportunities from this event into great results.
