With electronic technology advancing at such a rapid pace, production methods are constantly being rendered obsolete and abandoned. Yet some of these old techniques, while not used as commonly as they used to be, endure because they offer certain benefits that newer technologies cannot beat.

The changing and challenging times of a Salesperson.

The Corona Virus (Covid-19) has vastly changed the way we carry out all our duties within our businesses and this could continue for an undetermined time into the future.

As a salesperson, the days of arranging personal visits to companies to manage orders and promote our services seems a distant memory and sadly which may never return as we previously knew.

Understandably, with social distancing and our duty of care to protect our staff, site visits will be greatly reduced or disappear altogether.

All businesses need customers to survive, but the majority also need reliable suppliers which are just as important, as without one you often do not have the other.

Over the years I have seen the role and methods of the salesperson change. Before the internet (yes, it is still in living memory) Purchasing Managers relied on Business Directories, exhibitions, and company representatives to source suppliers and learn about new products and latest technologies. But with the current situation and uncertainty of what may be ahead will exhibitions now continue? I have had 1 cancelled and 1 postponed so far this year. Over recent years I have seen the foot fall at exhibitions decline and when I ask clients why they do not visit exhibitions anymore they usually respond by saying “I don’t have the time and can find what I want on the internet” which I fully understand and appreciate but it also does make our roles as Salespersons even more of a challenge.

So where does this current situation leave us? Emails, Phone Calls, Social Media and our Websites and with many people working from home this is the only methods of contacting customers and prospective clients we have available to us.

So, when you get a call from a supplier such as us, please take it, an email in your Inbox, please read it, as with all businesses we as others are looking to continue our business, manage our customers and find new clients in these difficult and unprecedented times and you never know we may be just what you’re looking for.

We as a company are fortunate in that Interface Manufacturing Limited have been able to stay open throughout this crisis and as a critical supplier in the fight against Covid-19 we have continued to keep our clients supplied with populated printed circuit boards and contract assembled products while also protecting our staff with newly placed processes and social distancing control.

Please all keep safe and well and perhaps we can meet in person or virtually to discuss your requirements in the future.

We would like to congratulate our apprentice David Lahabib on completing his Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

David joined Interface Manufacturing in 2017 as an apprentice and the BTEC Level 3 Diploma programme has equipped David with the essential knowledge, understanding and skills to further his career in electronic engineering and strengthens IML’s knowledge base within the electronic engineering and test departments.

Well done David.
