Environmental responsibility is not separate from quarrying, it's part of how the job is done. ๐Ÿ™Œ

At Goonvean Aggregates, we're continually working to reduce the environmental impact of our operations through responsible sourcing, efficient processing and the use of secondary materials, while also looking at ways to reduce carbon emissions across the business.

Alongside supplying materials, there's also a responsibility to consider the wider impact quarrying can have on the environment, local communities and the people connected to our operations.

That thinking runs through the way we operate across our sites and the long term targets we continue to work towards.

Having two quarries in Cornwall gives us more flexibility during busy construction periods, helping us keep material moving and maintain supply across multiple projects at the same time.

That extra capacity means customers are less likely to face delays when demand suddenly increases, with material ready to go when it's needed to help keep projects on schedule.

Peak season waits for no one.

With groundworks and construction projects moving quickly this summer, having the right material ready when it's needed can make all the difference to keeping work on schedule.

Our two Cornwall sites are stocked and ready to supply everything from Type 1 sub base and graded sands through to drainage aggregates, gabion stone and more specialised materials, helping to keep projects moving without unnecessary delays.

Delivery is available across Cornwall, Devon, the South West and further afield by road, sea or rail, depending on what works best for your site!

And thatโ€™s a wrap on another busy month at Goonvean Aggregates!

May has kept the team busy, with materials heading out across the South West to a mixture of ongoing projects:

โœ”๏ธ Housing developments
โœ”๏ธ Road repairs
โœ”๏ธ Farm infrastructure
โœ”๏ธ Commercial groundwork

With both sites working together and deliveries running at seamlessly, itโ€™s been about keeping materials moving and getting them where they need to be.

Now it's time to get stuck into the summer orders, which are already starting to pick up. ๐Ÿค

Recent planning reforms are expected to increase housing targets across the South West over the coming years, putting more pressure on developers to deliver at pace!

As projects move through the early stages, keeping sites supplied with the right materials becomes key to maintaining progress on the ground.

With ๐™ฉ๐™ฌ๐™ค quarries in Cornwall, we have the capacity to supply materials into housing, construction and infrastructure projects across the region, including starter layers, concrete sand and gabion stone used throughout groundwork stages.

With both sites working together, supply can be kept aligned with project demand as work moves forward. View our full product range here: https://bit.ly/3Qa4AeA

Locked and loaded! ๐Ÿ‘Š

Good to be back on site after the bank holiday, and thereโ€™s only one way to get straight back into it: fire up the Wheel Loaders and start shifting material across site ready for processing and dispatch.

Thereโ€™s plenty to get through, with stock moving in, material being sorted and loads heading back out the gate. Busy sites, moving machines and another week underway. Letโ€™s get it rolling!

21/05/2026

With the weather picking up, groundworks are getting underway again and we have material ready to go!

Across our two sites, stockpiles are already in place, so as jobs start ramping up we have material ready to be called on without delay. This includes Type 1 sub-base, graded sands and drainage aggregates, along with gabion stone and other specific requirements depending on the job.

We're here to help support infrastructure, development and engineering work across the South West. ๐Ÿค

Spring = a busy season for agricultural track work too!

Weโ€™ve got ๐™ฅ๐™ก๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™ฎ of material available for agricultural foundations, with aggregates suited to farm tracks, drainage and soil improvement.

Everything goes through our own lab, so itโ€™s tested and checked for the applications itโ€™s going into. Getting the ground right makes a big difference once things pick up, so itโ€™s important to have the right material in place early on!

When we say we have capacity and fast lead times, we mean it!

With ๐™ฉ๐™ฌ๐™ค sites in Cornwall, this is how production looks most days, with piles of material ready to go and orders moving smoothly through.

Having both Greensplat and Melbur running means we're not relying on a single location, so output stays consistent and we're better placed to handle large orders or sudden spikes in demand as they come in.

Choosing a supplier that can keep up when it matters really does make a difference!

Sustainability plays a big part in how we handle the materials we produce, and with Climate Change Day, it felt like a good time to highlight some of the steps weโ€™ve taken to reduce waste.

One of the challenges with processing secondary aggregates at the quarry was that a portion had to be returned to the original supplier, where it would often end up in landfill.

To change that, and move towards a true ๐˜‡๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ผ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฝ approach where everything brought to site can be fully utilised, we worked with McLanahan, with support from Goonvean Group, to design and invest in a wash plant with integrated water recycling.

That solution brought together an UltraWASH Modular Wash Plant, UltraSAND Plant and a 10m EcoCycle High Rate Thickener.

Since installation, weโ€™ve been able to process all secondary aggregates, create additional usable products and remove the need for anything to go to landfill.

Itโ€™s made a real difference to how the site runs and continues to support the work weโ€™re doing to reduce our carbon footprint. ๐Ÿ™Œ
