Handmade unique art ceramic funeral urn for ashes!
One off urn with photo transfer!
This beautiful saggar urn measures 29 cm high and 19cm in diameter. Saggar firing involves no glaze what so ever. The bare clay is coated with Iron(III) aka ferric chloride, which is commonly used to etch copper circuit boards. When fired to 1100 degrees and including raw materials such as copper wire, steel wool, ferns, sugar, salt, etc, the fumes are trapped in the aluminium foil saggar and the colours are captured in the surface of the clay. These pieces are completely one of a kind, never to be reproduced. They are coated with a wax to polish the surface as well as protect the pieces from dust.
The illusive nature of saggar urns fired is both alluring and addictive. Despite the artists effort, no two burnished vessels are alike.
These unglazed urns are wrapped carefully with organic materials, ropes, wire and minerals and then packed in a chamber within the gas kiln. During the firing, the organic materials burn away, and the flame marks, v***r flashes and mineral fumes create a beautiful array of smokey soft colours that are both delicate and dynamic. Beautiful funeral art urn for ash.
