The weeks game for West Kirby United Football Club - Official was an early kick off against a tough, unbeaten Grove’s side who were regarded the strongest in the division...

Could our boys compete and make a account of themselves?...
too right they could. What a game !!!!

Our boys absolutely flew out the traps, Grove’s could not get out of their own half, Leo and Oscar upfront pressed hard and forced the opposition to either make mistakes or kick it long, when they did kick it long Harry and George at the back cleaned up and started some good passing moves with calmness and composure on the ball. Fred in goal hardly touched the ball during the first ten minutes. Leo was absolutely unplayable at times, carrying the ball up the pitch with pace, power and determination.

The first goal came through some good strong play from Oscar, winning his team a free kick, Leo stepped up and power it in to the top corner, 1-0.

The next flurry of goals came during a whirlwind 20 minutes, some absolute belters coming from Harry; a brilliant volley off a corner, Fred smashing one in from distance into the far corner and Oscar also slamming one in. Special mention to Giles again with his goal, this is becoming his trademark, stepping in winning the ball, bursting through at pace and finishing well.

A brilliant dominant performance by West Kirby United Reds shown by the fact we had to play against an extra man for a large portion of the game. Grove’s did poise more of an attacking threat when utilising the extra player but all the boys defending brilliantly and continued to out-compete the opposition. George and Harry were solid at the back playing as a pair.

Well done to man of the match Leo, well deserved on his birthday ! He was brilliant all game. Direct, fast and strong, against tough players. He made it look easy at times. Well done Leo.

Some say these lads could be top of league……… 😊 (if there was a league)

Bring on the weekend,

West Kirby United Football Club - Official Reds decided to engage in the ‘Silent Support Weekend’ in their game against Greasby – definitely a struggle for the manager Luke as he is always very vocal in encouraging and supporting the lads.

The Reds started fast, a long throw in by Oscar resulted in George running through on goal and poking the ball past the goalkeeper. The boys continued to put pressure on the opposition and but together some lovely passing moves (which was hard not to cheer !!!!) As the game went on the pitch became more and more difficult to play on, this didn’t stop Leo collecting the ball in his own half and dribbling past two players and sending a low shot into the corner of the goal.

Greasby were much improved in the second half and put our boys under some heavy pressure, they managed to pull one goal back and if it wasn’t for some great saves by George in goal and composed defending from Harry then Greasby could of found themselves in front. The lads dealt with the pressure well, all of them showed desire to keep the lead and get the win.

Man of the Match Giles was brilliant, pressing fast and aggressively and getting his just rewards, he stepped in and won the ball, burst through on goal and blasted a shot past the Greasby goalie. Giles wasn't finished there, he almost scored a carbon copy, again pressing hard and fast, winning the ball and scoring another rocket! Well done Giles. All the lads were great, they defended well as a team and were clinical in taking their chances.

The boys finished off the scoring with a great goal from Oscar, he won the ball out wide, ran down the wing and smashed a shot from a tight angle past the goalkeeper !

West Kirby United Reds – 5 Greasby – 2

Well done lads, Bring on the weekend !!

Very tough game this week for West Kirby United Football Club - Official against an excellent Cammell Laird 1907 FC Junior Section. team who had scored 26 goals and conceded none in their previous two games.

The boys started slow and found themselves 2-0 down straight away. As the game went on they started to feel their way into the game and competed much better, and started to play much better - Fredrick battled hard down the left hand side and managed to get space to loop a shot into the top corner and over the Cammell Laird goalkeeper.

The second quarter kicked off and Cammell Lairds scored three quick fire goals which you could say we were unlucky to concede, the wind playing a big part in two of them just looping over our goalkeeper. The boys never gave up, kept trying their best and battled hard to win the ball back. Frederick managed to pull another goal back just before half time with a powerful shot that their keeper had no chance of saving. 5-2 to Cammell Lairds going into the break...

The second half was better from our boys, they were so determined to keep going and not let their heads drop. In fairness they kept it at 5-2 right until the last couple of minutes when Cammell Lairds scored two further goals, one direct from a corner which the wind carried over our goalkeeper. Very unlucky again.

Man of the match was awarded to Frederick, he scored two great goals and put a shift in running back and helping the defence and getting stuck in.

In truth the lads played a team in Cammell Lairds who are being moved into Division 1 and who will more than likely beat most teams in that higher division, there will be days like this again as our lads adjust to that transition of playing in the higher divisions.

One thing is certain…. They will embrace the challenge and get better and better.

Well done lads, we are very proud of you all.

Up the West Kirby Red’s.

The long awaited first game of the new season in division 2 !!

A superb win for West Kirby United Football Club - Official against a very good Glenavon Hawks.

The boys started fast and were on the front foot straight away. What a way to score our first goal in division 2... Frederick picked the ball up out wide, skipped inside two Glenavon players and rifled a shot right into the top corner ! Fantastic Fred, well done!

Glenavon grew into the game and put our lads under some pressure but they battled hard and competed brilliantly. Harry had a great stint in goal making some good saves and bringing a sense of calm, George competed hard (sometimes too hard 😊) at the back winning the ball back for his team, Giles full of energy and determination, coupled with Leo, Oscar and Fred getting us up the pitch and creating chances.

As half time approached Glenavon managed to get an equaliser with a low shot unsighted by the goalkeeper which found the bottom corner. The second half was brilliant, real end to end stuff, the lads showed real intensity in their both their attacking play and defensive play.

Harry and George played as pair at the back for the final ten minutes and were solid with Giles behind them in goal making some important saves. The game looked as though it was going to be a draw until Leo showed brilliant strength and pace running from the right back position all the way up the pitch to win a corner. Leo took the resulting corner which was converted by Oscar who made a brilliant run to get on the end of the cross. 2-1 to West Kirby !! Glenavon still battled but the lads seen the game out with the same attitude which was evident throughout. Determination, desire, strength and fighting as a team to get the win.

Special mention to Giles who took home the man of the match trophy. He was all over the pitch winning the ball back and supporting the attacks. He also had a strong final ten minutes in goal helping his team to get the win.

Well done lads, bring on next week.

Up the West Kirby reds !
