Data centres were designed for the climate we had 🏢🗄️🖥️

Increasingly, they need to operate in the climate we have now 🌡️

A report (published on DataCenterNews) highlights the growing need to retrofit existing UK data centres as heatwaves, water stress and extreme weather put additional pressure on infrastructure 📝🔍🖥️

For HVAC, this raises an important question ❓
Is existing cooling infrastructure still fit for the conditions it may be expected to operate in? If not, is retrofitting the way forward - the plus being that it doesn't necessarily mean starting again?

As AI increases computing density and the resulting heat load, cooling needs to be considered as part of the wider resilience strategy - not simply as equipment that keeps servers at the right temperature 🎯

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day, and Aermec is taking a moment to recognise the people behind the systems 🫂

Our HVAC industry is built around creating comfortable, healthy environments for people - but the people behind those systems matter too🧠💭🤝

❗️Engineers, contractors, installers, consultants, service teams and everyone working in HVAC can face pressure, long hours, demanding projects and the expectation to keep things moving when problems arise 👇

🔔 A positive working environment isn't just about temperature, air quality or energy efficiency.

It's also about feeling supported, valued and able to say when things aren't OK.

Because looking after the systems matters.

Looking after the people who keep them running matters too🌱

Every HVAC professional started somewhere.

⭐ Someone taught them how to design a system.
⭐ Someone showed them how to solve a problem.
⭐ Someone passed on the knowledge and experience that can't simply be found in a manual.

Today is World Teachers' Day 🌍 🎓

Here at Aermec UK, we are recognising the teachers, tutors, mentors and experienced colleagues who help the next generation of HVAC professionals learn their trade 🙏

Because engineering knowledge doesn't just get passed down.

It gets built on ⚙️

And the people who share it help shape the future of our industry

🗞️As we all know, AI is driving unprecedented demand for data centres.

🗣️ We have highlighted recently that how we cool that infrastructure matters - and that the choices made at the design stage have wider implications.

Recent press coverage has raised concerns around water 💧availability in the UK and how cooling can no longer be considered simply an engineering requirement. It needs to be discussed as part of the wider conversation around energy, water and resource use.

📍At Aermec, we support conversations with stakeholders to ensure cooling approaches are appropriate for the application as well as the environment in which they operate.

It’s not about selling a cooling solution.
It’s about asking the right questions at the design stage and considering energy use, water availability and the specific conditions in which the infrastructure operates.

Read this article from Computing on why water shortage is a real concern and why the UK government needs to consider water availability as it works towards its data centre capacity ambitions.

The UK government’s enthusiasm for AI infrastructure is missing one important dependency: enough water to keep the servers cool.

📰The UK's £90m investment in heating and thermal systems is a clear signal: the way we think about heating and cooling is changing.

For HVAC, innovation isn't simply about developing new equipment. It's about rethinking 🤔 how thermal systems work within buildings, energy networks and the demands placed on them.

Heat pumps, heat recovery, thermal storage, smarter controls and heat networks all have a role to play - but the real opportunity lies in how these technologies are brought together 🔍

As heating and cooling demands evolve, HVAC engineers need to look beyond the individual system and ask a bigger question:

‘How can we design thermal systems that are ready for what comes next?’

At Aermec, innovation 💡means looking beyond today's requirements and considering what tomorrow's buildings and energy infrastructure will demand.

This September, Aermec employees are proud to join the many organisations fund raising for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month🤗

🤝Throughout the month Aermec employees have been fund raising in aid of the Lennox Children's Cancer Fund.

🎗️Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is recognised around the world and aims to encourage communities, workplaces, and public institutions to adopt the gold ribbon and help raise visibility of childhood cancer.

🎗️Companies are invited to dress in gold, illuminate buildings, update their branding, or host fundraising activities that can help shine a light on young people undergoing treatment.

❗Childhood cancer is one of the leading causes of death by disease among children and young people. Survival rates have improved but awareness campaigns aim to highlight the challenges faced while championing research, early diagnosis, and improved support services.

This year’s campaign will culminate in a global moment on 30 September 2026, when many organisations worldwide will unite and turn their digital platforms, workplaces, and community spaces gold.

Happiness at Work Week (21-25 September) is an opportunity for employers and employees to reflect on how we create positive, supportive working environments. Focusing on happiness at work is widely recognised as beneficial for wellbeing and can contribute to reduced stress and improved mental health.

What helps people feel happier and valued

🔹 Promoting a positive, respectful work culture
🔹 Encouraging creativity and innovation
🔹 Sharing a clear sense of purpose
🔹 Supporting personal fulfilment and motivation
🔹 Encouraging regular breaks to rest and recharge
🔹 Recognising achievements and contributions
🔹 Supporting healthy work/life balance
🔹 Building strong relationships and team connection
🔹 Reducing isolation and ensuring people feel included
🔹 Helping people develop practical coping strategies

Happiness at Work Week reinforces something we prioritise throughout the year: supporting employee wellbeing. Aermec continues to develop initiatives that promote welfare, connection, and self‑care across our teams.

Happiness at Work - Everybody wants to be happy, also at work. The last week of September is International Week of Happiness at Work

🌍Zero Emissions Day is a reminder that reducing environmental impact requires ongoing attention. In the HVAC sector, organisations are increasingly exploring ways to make more efficient and lower‑impact choices that support long‑term emissions reduction goals.

👉Reducing emissions involves more than selecting efficient equipment.

👉It requires considering the whole system - how buildings are designed, how heating and cooling are delivered, the energy sources used, and how effectively that energy is managed.

👉Responsible HVAC means looking beyond individual products and considering technologies and approaches that can support lower energy use and reduced emissions, while still meeting the comfort and performance needs of buildings.

Zero emissions may be an ambition, but progress depends on the decisions made today and the direction organisations choose to take🚀
