Reducing costs, improving productivity & lead times , whilst maintaining the highest of standards for our customers, is of uptmost importance to us here at Aztech.

Utilising our four modular machine vices on our Hurco VM10 along with the expertise of our skilled team, enables us to achieve these goals.

This shift is certainly something we are starting to see here at Aztech 😀

🔧 Top 6 Tips for CNC Turning of Copper 🔧

CNC turning of copper presents unique
challenges due to its softness, high ductility, and tendency to work harden.
Here are top tips to achieve optimal results:

1- Tool Selection and Material
Use Sharp Tools: Copper is abrasive; sharp tools are essential for
clean cuts and prolonged tool life. Consider tungsten carbide or diamond-coated
tools.

Tool Geometry: Opt for tools with a positive rake angle and high
clearance to reduce cutting forces and prevent work hardening.

2-Cutting Parameters
Speed and Feed Rates: Copper requires high cutting speeds but moderate
feed rates. Start with a high surface speed (e.g., 300-1000 m/min) and adjust
based on the specific copper alloy.

Depth of Cut: Use a moderate depth of cut to prevent excessive
heat buildup and tool wear.

3-Coolant and Lubrication
Proper Cooling: Ample coolant prevents heat buildup, which can
cause tool wear and work hardening. Water-soluble coolants work well.

Lubrication: Ensure good lubrication to reduce friction and
improve surface finish.

4-Chip Management
Chip Breaking: Copper produces long, continuous chips. Use chip
breakers to avoid entanglement and potential damage.

Clear Chips Frequently: Maintain a smooth machining process by clearing
chips from the cutting area.

5-Workholding and Fixturing
Secure Clamping: Avoid excessive pressure to prevent deformation.
Soft jaws or delicate material fixtures work best.

Minimize Vibration: Firmly hold the workpiece to enhance surface finish and tool life.

6-Tool Path and Strategy
Consistent Cutting Path: Plan the tool path to maintain consistent forces
and prevent work hardening.

Finish Passes: Use light finish passes for the desired surface
finish without introducing excess heat or stress.

Implementing these tips will lead to
better results when CNC turning copper, enhancing efficiency, surface finish,
and tool longevity. 🛠️🔍👷‍♂️

Our customer has kindly allowed us to share images of his 2000 series grippers.

These grippers have been used around the world for the last 30 years.

Due to there robust design, they are often found in highly demanding & testing environments, from hot metal casting foundry's to volume production in the automotive sector.

Aztech is proud to have been manufactuing the components that make up these grippers for the last decade.

We would like to thank Dave at Paddock Motorcycles York www.paddockmotorcycles.co.uk
For the truly exceptional job he has made of polishing up these SS316 covers, we have CNC milled for a customer.
I only wish I had taken a before shot, to show the comparison, one of our engineers actually thought they had been chrome plated
