I am Stepping Down as Warden of Jordan Heights Campsite
After being Warden of Jordan Heights Campsite since the very beginning — when we first started the site all those years ago with Aaron, Derek, Phill, and Angela — the time has come for me to step down from the role.
When we began, Jordan Heights was just a small Guide campsite with only a few campers each year and no facilities at all. Over the years, we have worked hard to develop it into the Jordan Heights Activity Centre & Scout Campsite that so many people know today: a thriving multi‑activity site with fantastic facilities including Archery, Shooting, Tomahawk Throwing, an assault course, Crossbows, an orienteering course, Nightline, Nerf guns, catapults, and so much more. Some years we’ve welcomed over 1,000 campers, including groups from all over Europe.
As an Archery, Shooting, and Tomahawk instructor, I’ve had so much fun teaching young people of all ages. Watching the site grow and improve year after year has made me incredibly proud to be part of Scouting and of everything we’ve achieved at the campsite.
My whole family has been involved in this journey. My son Aaron spent countless hours with me in the early days as we built the site from the ground up. Angela has been involved since the very start and only recently retired from the site herself. And of course Mum and Dad, who gave so much of their time and loved the place as much as any of us.
Although I’m stepping down as Warden, I’m not leaving Scouting — and I’m certainly not leaving Jordan Heights. I will continue as an instructor for Archery, Shooting, and Tomahawk Throwing for groups who don’t have their own instructor, and I’ll still be looking after all the equipment as well.
Jordan Heights has been a huge part of my life, and I’m grateful for every moment, every challenge, and every young person who has passed through our gates. I’m proud of what we’ve built together, and I look forward to supporting the site in this next chapter.
Many thanks Spence
