Tips to save fuel:

- Use the correct engine oil

- Keep tyre pressure at 0.3–0.5 bar above advised pressure to have low rolling resistance tyres

- Reduce unnecessary weight, empty that boot!

- Reduce air resistance, take off roof bars when they’re not being used.

- Switch off air conditioning and heating (dress warmly!)

- Turn off a warm engine at traffic lights with waiting times longer than 30 seconds

- Drive in the correct gear (high gear for low revs)

- Plan your trips, avoid any unnecessary mileage.

That time of year again!

-Cover windscreen overnight if possible (not with newspaper)

-Stock up on de-icer, or create your own with a water 2:1 solution with vinegar/alcohol

-A good ice scraper

-Avoid leaving anything wet/damp inside the car

Changes made today:

Two tone number plates banned and GB stickers no longer in use when driving in Europe, must now be a UK sticker.

The law is going to change later in 2021. It will mean that if you passed your car driving test from 1 January 1997, you’ll be allowed to tow trailers up to 3,500kg MAM without taking a car and trailer driving test.

Could make caravan season interesting next year 🙈

- Important news for petrol cars! 🚗

British standard petrol is moving from 95 octane to E10. Any petrol vehicle pre 2010 may be affected, make sure you keep up to date with the changes and how it can affect you.

Summer vehicle checks 🌞 🚗

Winter car checks are vital to get you through the winter, but there are a few things to check at the start of summer too. Here are some tips to keep you prepared for the summer season.

- CHECK FLUIDS 🚰 check screen wash to clear bugs from the windscreen and check radiator coolant levels to prevent overheating.

- AIR CONDITIONING ❄️ manufacturers recommend re-filling every two years, or if your air isn’t blowing icy cool it could need a top up.

- TYRE PRESSURE 💨 as the weather warms up, the air pressure in your tyres increases, putting more strain on weak areas and putting them more at risk of punctures, check pressures regularly to keep them at optimum pressure.

- BREAKDOWN COVER 🛻 summer trips can be ruined by being stuck on the side of a road. Being covered reduces some of this stress and it’s much cheaper to of paid in advance than when you need it

- STOCK UP 🧺 we all know about the summer traffic in Cornwall, keep stocked up with plenty of water and provisions and fuel for the possibility of being stuck in a long traffic jam.

Watergate hill climb is returning 18/19th September. Each year (other than 2020) has seen the event get bigger and better. A slightly different format than previous years, but certainly one to go to this year.
