Spoon-horn from Hazel (Corylus avellana), beautiful grain and medullary rays.
A common tree, but rare to see used for spoons, it grows straight and relatively quickly, it's small with a girth often not much more than a few inches.
It also has a variety of other uses so often it's coppiced early.

I handled the Hewn and Hone Sloyd Blade a couple of weeks back, and am very happy with the results.
This week I handled the Nic Westermann Turning Sloyd, keeping a similar shaped handle, but making it thinner and more nimble.
I'll test it out for a few weeks and see how it goes.

Spoons, tools, n treen all done at Hold Creative Spaces in Pathcarvers Ramsgate.
Simon finished the Kåsa he's been working on for several weeks, and worked on a couple of spoons.
Thomas finished one spoon and started another, with the intention of aiming for symmetry.
And I handled a Nic Westermann turning sloyd blade, brought in the penguin chip carver, and dolphin spoon, plus made a new spoon horn.

A few weeks back, I took Keiko through my process on roughing out a dolphin spoon.
Since then I've gone back to it a few times, tidying and finishing it.
I had the intention of decorating with one style, but seemed to channel my best Sebastian Ungh instead.
