If your car's not taxed and not SORN’d, the DVLA doesn’t forget — and the fines turn up faster than you’d expect.

Quick heads-up for anyone with a driveway ornament:

If you’re not using the car, SORN it. If you are using it, tax it. Doing neither is what lands people with £80 fines (or worse).

And if the reason it’s sitting there is because it’s had its day — flat battery, failed MOT, gearbox having a moment — that’s usually the point people call us.

A news article this week explained how rising scrap metal prices can affect what your car's worth when it's reached the end of its life.

But it also pointed out something a lot of people don’t realise — some cars are worth more in parts than they are as complete cars.

Copper wiring, catalytic converters, alloy wheels, engines and gearboxes can all add value, which is why two “scrap” cars can end up with very different prices.

That’s exactly why we break vehicles for parts as well as scrap them.
