Professor Peter Flewitt Memorial Seminar
Date: Wednesday, July 16, 2025
This seminar is dedicated to the memory of Professor Peter Flewitt FREng, who passed away on September 21, 2024. Peter’s career spanned decades of significant contributions to materials science and structural integrity, including senior technical roles at the Central Electricity Generating Board, a Visiting Professorship at the University of Bristol, and over 20 years as a director of the Forum for Engineering Structural Integrity (FESI).
Peter’s work, which included over 250 published papers and three co-authored books, advanced understanding in areas such as microstructure, fracture mechanics, and nuclear materials. His achievements were recognised through numerous accolades, including Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Plowden Award from the British Nuclear Energy Society.
The seminar covers some of the many technical areas that Peter worked on and undertook research in with the various presentations being given by leading experts in their respective fields, from both industry and academia. The topics covered include reheat cracking, creep cavitation, high-temperature performance of power plant steels, microstructure characterisation, nuclear graphite, residual stresses, fracture toughness and crack-tip constraint.
There will be no fees for attending the seminar but attendees must register prior to the event.
