Today, on the 79th Anniversary, we remember the bravest Mumbles Lifeboat crew, who launched on 23 April 1947 to the aid of the Samtampa off Sker Point.

In severe conditions, they launched to save others, they had not met. They did not return.

Coxswain William Gammon, William Davies, William Noel, W R S Thomas, Ernest Griffin, William R Thomas, William Lewis Howell and Richard Smith.

We also remember the 39 lives lost from the ship SS Samtampa who the Mumbles Lifeboat crew were attempting to save.
