Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship Opportunity – starting September 2026
We’re looking for a young person to start their welding/fabrication career with us in September 2026. You will complete your apprenticeship through Heart of Yorkshire College in Castleford, where you will attend 1 day per week – the rest of the week you will be in our workshop gaining vital hands-on knowledge & experience.
You will begin at Level 2 which is a 2 year course and then hopefully progress to Level 3 – Metal Fabricator which takes another 3 years.
Are you what we’re looking for? Below is what we expect of our apprentices:
Are you committed to working a full working week – every week – 52 weeks a year (you will get 23 days paid holiday and all Bank Holidays off)? I’m tired, I’ve got a headache, my nose is running, I might be getting a cold are not valid reasons for phoning in sick.
Are you able to get up and get to our workshop in South Kirkby for 7.15am Monday to Friday? We do not accept I missed my bus, my mum didn’t wake me, I forgot to set my alarm as valid reasons for being late for work.
Are you able to get to Castleford for 8.30am for the start of college days?
Are you physically fit and able? This is a job that involves standing on your feet for lengthy periods, lifting materials and being able to navigate a busy workshop safely?
Are you committed to 5 years of college work and homework?
Are you genuinely interested in becoming a welder/fabricator? Are you willing to start at the bottom and work your way up? You’ll be drilling /operating saw/fetching & carrying for experienced staff/sweeping floors/counting parts/emptying bins/ordering butties on a Friday – all parts of the job before you even get close to a weld set.
If you’ve answered yes to the above, then get in touch. Send your CV’s to [email protected] or feel free to call down and drop it off in person.
Wages will be in line with current Government requirements for apprenticeships.
We will be looking to offer part-time employment to the successful applicant over school holidays/possibly weekends between now and September so that we can see if you are the right fit for the job and our Company. We are a small team so being able to work with others and communicate is key.
