Not all equipment is new and that’s exactly what makes some of it special.

That’s what we found when we were contacted by a new customer in Campbeltown.

Springbank Distillers wanted to retain their original rotary cleaner as a vintage feature of the distillery tours, but decades of use had started to show on the drum separator and screening section.

After inspecting the machine, we measured up and sourced a replacement mesh screen to suit the existing equipment, then fitted it around production to minimise disruption for the customer.

A great outcome all round in helping preserve a piece of distillery history while keeping the equipment operating as it should.

Another happy new customer for Patterson Engineering ✅

Not a big job, but a proper milestone.

Our apprentice Josh has just delivered one of his own projects, a new fence for Diageo’s iconic Lagavulin Distillery on Islay.

He headed over to the beautiful island of Islay to measure up, organised the materials required, then back in the workshop where he cut, fabricated, and welded the full job prior to galvanising, ready to go back over to the island.

All done without holding his hand.

That’s the standard we’re building at Patterson Engineering, young engineers who can be trusted to get on with it and deliver work to a high standard.

Good job for the client. Big step for Josh.

We’ve just had commissioning of our new Morgan Rushworth CNC plasma system we purchased, supplied to us by RS Machinery Group. This is a key step in our ongoing investment into Patterson Engineering.

This machine has been heavily specified, including a VWI gas console, allowing us to achieve HD cut quality across a wide range of materials. We particularly required this for stainless as we often work with this metal.

As part of a six figure investment programme, this upgrade strengthens our capability to deliver precision fabrication and expands the services we can offer our customers.

We’ll soon be providing high-definition profiling and etching on:

• Mild steel
• Hardox
• Stainless steel
• Aluminium
• Copper

If you’re looking for accurate, high quality profiling & parts, get in touch, we’re ready to support your next project!

Keeping bulk handling systems running 🔧

At Patterson Engineering, we recently supplied and installed a replacement Redler chain and tension end for the intake conveyor at Edrington’s Glenrothes Distillery.

Wear parts like these are critical to reliable operation, and replacing them at the right time can give equipment another lease of life & more importantly, keep production running smoothly.

We can supply genuine OEM parts for most manufacturers’ bulk handling equipment, helping customers maintain performance and extend the lifespan of their machinery✅

If you’re looking for replacement parts, repairs, or upgrades for conveyors/elevators and bulk handling systems, feel free to get in touch💪

The birth of the perfect pint… and quite possibly, of the perfect project. 🍺

Patterson Engineering has successfully delivered a full turnkey project at Tennent's Caledonian Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow.

The project involved a complete intake replacement machine on the malt product handling line, encompassing the supply and installation of a Guttridge Ltd chain conveyor, with full ATEX compliance and along with all mechanical and electrical works involved.

Being delivered and project managed within a tight shutdown window boasts massive credit to the team for getting it over the line on time and to a high quality finish👏

Thanks to Forsyth of Denny for the crane work 🏗️ and Ella Electrical in facilitating the COMPEX requirements electrically⚡️

As we enter the new year and look ahead to a wide range of exciting projects at Patterson Engineering, it’s also a good opportunity to reflect on one of our most challenging (yet rewarding) projects from last year.

During Q4 of last year, we successfully removed a dated intake and upgraded the system with a new Cimbria intake screw and heavy-duty bucket elevator at Port Ellen Maltings for Diageo.

This project presented several significant challenges. The existing elevator casing was a lot larger than modern similar capacity models and had to be removed through extremely tight gaps and floor penetrations, all within a very limited CDM shutdown window. Restricted access, programme pressure, and the scale of the equipment required careful planning, precise ex*****on, and close coordination on site.

The new heavy-duty bucket elevator was built to a high specification, incorporating Hardox liners, bearing temperature monitoring systems, pneumatic boot cleaning and more… delivering improved durability, safety, and long-term operational performance.

In addition, our engineering team expertly fabricated tight transition pieces on site for both machines, overcoming severe space constraints and ensuring seamless integration with the existing plant. This level of on-site fabrication and problem solving is a key part of what allows us to deliver complex upgrades in challenging environments.

Despite the complexity of the works and the tight timeframes involved, the project was delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Projects like this continue to reinforce Patterson Engineering’s position as a trusted partner and leader in our field, capable of delivering technically demanding industrial projects under pressure.

As we move into the new year, we’d like to extend our best wishes to everyone and their families, wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous year ahead. We look forward to working with both existing and new clients throughout the new year on the exciting projects to come.

🍻 Keeping history moving 🍻

Our engineers have been busy in the run up to Christmas, carrying out a full asset health check on bulk handling equipment at the historic Tennent's Caledonian Brewery.

It’s great to contribute to the working systems and equipment behind the scenes that keep this iconic brewery operating and in production…a site with centuries of brewing heritage that still relies on well maintained, reliable engineering today.

PROTECTING THE FUTURE TODAY. 🙌

This started as an idea from our Office Manager, Rebecca Patterson, and it’s quickly become something we’re proud to put our name to.

At Patterson Engineering, we believe success should do more than show up on a spreadsheet. It should make a real difference close to home. That’s why we’re launching a simple commitment we hope can grow into a movement:

Protecting the Future Today.

We’ve already taken our first step by donating much needed Hi-Vis vests to our local nursery. A huge thank you to MacGregor Industrial Supplies who, sharing our values, contributed 50% towards the cost and supplied the vests too 🙏

Each year, we pledge to donate a portion of our profits to local schools and nurseries in our surrounding communities. The aim is practical, immediate support, helping towards the purchase of PPE and warm clothing for children who need it!

For us, it’s about care, dignity, and safety, the same values we live by in our work, extended to the next generation.

If you’re a like-minded business and this resonates with you, we’d love to see more companies step forward and contribute in whatever way they can. Even small commitments add up when we do it together.

Let’s protect the future, today. 🤝

we’ve officially moved into our new 10,000 sq ft workshop in the central Perth harbour area ⚓️🏭

We’re focused on helping bring industry back to Perth, both strengthening the heavy industrial sector and supporting local businesses and projects across the heart of Scotland and further afield.

We are continuing to offer a full range of fabrication services, backed by top-of-the-range metalworking equipment and a team that takes real pride in delivering quality work, whether it’s one-off repairs, site work, breakdown support, bespoke builds, or larger fabrication packages.

This move gives us the space to grow, take on bigger projects, and turn work around faster, and we’re only getting started. 👀
We’ve got further machinery acquisitions planned for the new year, which will push our capabilities even further.

If you’re in Perthshire, Scotland, (or beyond) and need reliable fabrication support, plant maintenance, installation works, get in touch! we’re here, we’re set up, and we’re ready to get to work.
