Hospitality is heading into silly season. As we know, Santa can get around the world in one night. OEM fridge seals? Not a chance.
Fridges are full. Bookings are back-to-back. Teams are stretched.

In the UK, we throw away nearly 7 million tonnes of food every year.

It’s National Work Life Week, and it’s one that really hits home for me. In facilities, maintenance and hospitality, the idea of a 9–5 is almost laughable.

When a fridge goes down or a seal fails, it’s never at a convenient time. I’ve seen how hard engineers and site teams work to keep things running, often late into the evening, juggling callouts and keeping customers happy.

At Gasket Guy, our business hours might be 9–5 on paper, but the reality’s a bit different. If we see someone reach out needing help, we’ll still log in, take the call or find a way to sort it. That’s just how we work, we care about the people we support, and we know how tough it can be out there.

That’s also why we focus so much on planned maintenance, seal audits and stock planning, to take a bit of pressure off and hopefully stop those last-minute emergencies before they happen.

Ever heard of Second Hand September in the fashion world? It’s all about reusing and not throwing things away. I still have clothes hanging up with the labels on hidden from the hubby! 😅

I’ve been doing my bit lately, loving a few pre-loved gems from Selfridges and a classy store in Cirencester. One item in, one out to charity, it feels good!

Refrigeration is a slightly different beast (and yes, sometimes more expensive than my shopping sprees… well, only just 😬). But here’s the thing: why fork out for a new fridge or freezer when all it really needs is a new door seal? Like my old faithful jeans, some appliances have plenty of life left.

Challenges are tough, if they were meant to be easy they wouldn’t be a challenge! Over the past 20 years I have pushed my boundaries with challenges, but this is the hardest yet. Learning to swim front crawl and getting used to my face in the water is hard, I am very good at drowning and drinking (the pool water) but this week after months of trying I have managed 2 lengths of front crawl! Now practice , patience and perseverance to take on my next challenge for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Sept 26, 2 mile swim in the serpentine lake, London!! We are at over £5,000 raised so far and hoping to hit £10,000 before the challenge. When something is tough it’s easy to give in, but when it means so much and remembering those who we do it for really spurs you one and makes you hold yourself accountable too. We will get there one stroke at a time. Thanks to my amazing friend Vicky for her patience and Exeter Golf and Country Club with Wear Park Spa and Restaurant jones for your amazing support.
