Most of us never think twice about what is needed for a child to learn in a classroom.

For Steve Rose, our Group Learning & Development Manager, a volunteering trip to Ghana changed that. While spending time in a primary school in Busua, he saw children sharing textbooks, copying lessons word for word and waiting for others just to keep up. It is a small detail, but it makes a huge difference to how children learn and build confidence.

It is the kind of experience that stays with you, and for Steve it has led to something much bigger since returning home. His story is a powerful reminder of how much impact one person can have when they take the time to get involved.

Our own Malcolm Wilde is taking on the TIP “Bull Run” this week, cycling more than 320km through Spain with a team of riders from across the transport industry.

The riders are on day two of three today, with over 1,000 metres of elevation across over 100 kilometres of cycling yesterday.

The group is raising money for the Dougie Mac and Donna Louise children’s hospices, with a big target of £100,000.

It’s a tough challenge with some serious climbs along the way, but it’s all for an amazing cause.
