Eleven new industrial units… seen from a slightly different angle.

Our Bingham development is taking shape, and drone footage gives a much better sense of the footprint, scale and progress across the whole site than you ever get standing at ground level.

There’s still plenty to come, but this is a good point to look at how far the site has already moved on.

Fifty years in construction means a lot has changed… the machinery, the regulations, the technology and the scale of the projects.

Even the address has changed.
Ten years ago we outgrew our home in Arnold and moved to Bulwell (swipe to see it make the Nottingham Post).
Today we’re based at Colwick Quays.

One thing hasn’t changed. D.L. Rhodes & Son remains a family-run business, with the family name still above the door.

That matters to us.

Because when your name is attached to the work, reputation isn’t a marketing line. It’s something you build project by project, client by client, year after year.

Five decades later, we’re still here.

Concrete doesn’t make for the most glamorous part of the build; but it does make the rest of it possible.

At Bingham, the groundwork is progressing with the concrete foundations being poured ahead of the steelwork for 11 new industrial units.

At this stage, accuracy matters. Levels, positions and preparation all have to be right before the structure starts rising above ground.

Soon, most of this work will disappear beneath the finished development.

For now, this is where the build really begins.

You know D.L. Rhodes are on site when the black vans arrive.

Across five decades, the projects have changed, the equipment has changed… and the fleet has certainly had a few upgrades along the way.

But those three letters have travelled with us from job to job, across Nottingham and much further afield.

From residential developments and commercial builds to groundworks, civil engineering and specialist infrastructure projects, our vehicles have probably clocked up almost as many stories as the people driving them.

And 50 years on, the DLR name is still heading out to site.

St George Court. Birmingham.

St George Court in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter saw D.L. Rhodes & Son facilitate the development of 24 new apartments alongside retail space.

The residential element comprises 13 two-bedroom and 11 one-bedroom apartments, bringing new homes into one of Birmingham’s most distinctive urban neighbourhoods.

Mixed-use developments have to work on more than one level… quite literally.
They need to consider the different ways people will live in, work in and interact with the building long after construction finishes.

St George Court is another example of the breadth of projects D.L. Rhodes & Son has delivered beyond our Nottingham home.

Conveyor Pit Installation. Eastleigh.

D.L. Rhodes & Son was appointed main contractor for the installation of a conveyor pit at a baling plant in Southampton.

It’s the sort of project that shows another side of what we do.

Away from finished façades and residential developments, our civil engineering work takes us into industrial environments where precision, coordination and getting the fundamentals right are what matter.

Because not everything we build is designed to be noticed.

Some things are built simply to work, and work properly.

A lot of what makes a project work happens long before the finished building takes shape.

Civil engineering and groundworks have been an important part of our work for decades, with our teams delivering projects in Nottingham and across the UK.

From excavation, foundations and reinforced concrete structures to drainage, hard-standing and site management, the work beneath and around a development is fundamental to everything that follows.

Our experience also extends into specialist waste infrastructure, including waste transfer stations, concrete construction slabs, drainage systems, interceptors, industrial channelling and associated infrastructure.

It’s work that isn’t always the most visible once a project is complete.

But get it wrong, and everything above it matters very little.

Castle Court. Dudley.

141 new homes created within the shell of an existing building.

Formerly known as Falcon House, this eight-storey office block in Dudley presented an opportunity to answer a very different need.

Rather than starting again, the comprehensive redevelopment retained the existing shell and many of the building’s features, while completely reimagining its purpose.

D.L. Rhodes & Son was appointed principal contractor for the transformation into 141 new apartments… 65 one-bedroom and 76 two-bedroom homes.

That’s what makes redevelopment interesting.

You’re not working with a blank canvas. You’re working with what’s already there, understanding what can be retained, what needs to change and how an existing structure can work for an entirely new generation of occupants.
