For Sale - Wörner B4 - High Speed Precision Bench Drill

Used Wörner B4 400V 3 Phase precision bench drill. This was a premium machine when new and is a high quality well-made piece of equipment. Suitable for applications small high precision such as clock making, scale model making etc. It features pulleys that allow 8 different speeds (650 rpm through to 12,000, see front plate in images). It also can be converted to run off an inverter for precise speed control and this is included in the sale, but has not been installed.

Features

This drill is 3 phase operating on 400V therefore will not run on a 3 pin standard household plug. It has a 5 pin 3 phase plug installed - please check compatibility with your set-up, otherwise a 4 pin conversion may be required, which is not difficult. The drill features a work light, depth stop and is height adjustable. There are 8 speeds that are selectable via changes to the belt and pulley drive system. T slots in the bed allow workpieces to be secured effectively and safely.

Dimensions (Approx.)

Height - 46cm
Length - 54cm
Width - 26cm
Weight - 36kg

Condition

The drill is in good used condition and operates well. The body is not perfect - this is a decades old machine and there are scratches and missing paint here and there, but it is generally in very presentable condition. There are some small holes drilled into the bed under the spindle as seen in the pictures, however these do not affect operation. We bought this drill at least 3 years ago with the intention of using it for model making, in which time it was PAT tested but has remained unused. We have deemed it surplus to requirements due to having other similar equipment and is up for grabs for someone who will be able to get some use out of it. We are not a machine dealer so it is sold as seen with no guarantee.

This is also listed on eBay so we reserve the right to remove this at any time.

Another order heading out, this time to a UK customer called Little British Rail

After visiting the Portable Railway Club event at the Great Central Railway last year, Pete was blown away by the quality of the MRW Jubilee track and decided to purchase some for himself. Following a year of use he was so pleased with it that he has now expanded the railway into a complete loop.

Pete commented on how easily the track went together and how smooth the ride quality was once in operation.

Our Jubilee track system has been designed as a practical portable railway system which can be assembled quickly while still giving a strong and reliable track suitable for regular use. Using our flexible fishplate system, the panels go together easily and allow complete railways to be assembled in a relatively short space of time.

No rest for the MRW team.

We have been in the workshop this weekend building packing crates for Titans. Two of our 7 1/4" gauge locomotives are destined for export in the near future, so proper packing is essential before they begin their journey overseas.

Alongside this we are continuing to work through existing orders to help catch up on the order book, and we are still actively looking for another team member to join the workshop.

It really is true that the UK still has a manufacturing heart, and here at MRW we are proud to be designing, building and exporting British made locomotives around the world.

Update - now sold!

Used 7 1/4" gauge Jubilee starter set now available.

We have had a complete 30ft radius Jubilee portable track loop come into the workshop for resale after the previous owner upgraded to a permanent railway.

The set includes:

- 4 x A radius curves
- 40 x K radius curves
- 4 x straight panels
- 48 x tie bars

New price would be £4,588.

This used set is available at 25% off, making it £3,441.

The panels have all been checked over here at MRW, with any faults repaired before being offered back for sale. Supplied ready for service with our normal 1 year warranty.

A rare chance to buy a complete Jubilee setup second hand.

Please note this is used steel track, so surface rust and signs of use are completely normal and do not affect serviceability.

Once it is gone, it is gone.

Back in stock at MRW.

Our Midland Railway miniature locomotive headlamps are once again available, now supplied complete with both burner and reservoir ready for use.

Fitted with a genuine oil lamp interior. None of this LED nonsense.

Each lamp is handcrafted here in the UK by our Norfolk Tinman craftsman and features genuine glass bull’s eyes, making it a faithful working reproduction of the original Midland Railway design, scaled to suit miniature locomotives.

Designed as a proper working lamp, these are ideal for locomotives around the size of a 7 1/4" Tinkerbell, Romulus and larger miniature locomotives up to 15" gauge.

These lamps have been the subject of months of design and development work to ensure they both perform and look correct. We are proud that our tinplate products are still made here in Britain using traditional skills which are sadly becoming increasingly rare.

By purchasing one of these lamps you are directly supporting British manufacturing and the traditional craft of tinplate work.

Very limited stock remaining with just two currently available.

Back in stock at MRW, our GWR gauge glass lamps made by our very own Norfolk Tinman using traditional skills right here in the UK.

These full size reproduction lamps are designed to hang from the lamp bracket fitted to GWR gauge glasses, allowing crews to clearly see the water level in low light conditions. They also feature the traditional red aspect, enabling communication during shunting movements and allowing crews to signal drivers when required.

Originally these lamps would have burned rapeseed oil, as paraffin burned too quickly due to the heat around the firebox. Today, standard lamp oil is the recommended fuel.

A proper piece of railway history, still appreciated by enthusiasts and full size crews alike.

Introducing DONALD.

Formerly known as Red Dragon, this locomotive has now been rebuilt and renamed in honour of David’s father, finished in Caledonian blue with full lining and plenty of Scottish character.

Pictured on the left is Tim, who has been working with MRW for the last few months and is the man behind this locomotive’s incredible transformation.

The locomotive has undergone a comprehensive rebuild here at MRW, with every moving component dismantled, inspected and rebuilt throughout the process.

It has certainly been a major project, with only one real setback along the way. During clear coating we suffered a reaction in the paint which, after a lot of head scratching, was eventually traced back to a faulty can supplied by a supposedly trusted brand. Needless to say we will not be rushing back to use that particular supplier again.

We are pleased to say the locomotive is now complete and back with David. The tanks will likely return over the winter so we can finish some of the finer lining details, as David’s deadline meant we needed to return the locomotive before every last touch was complete.

Even so, we think it looks absolutely smashing and, more importantly, David is over the moon with it.
