What started as a small nut and bolt stockist has grown into a engineering supplies company supplying customers across the world - from the UK to Thailand, Australia, the USA, Canada, Senegal, Portugal and many, many more countries. 🌍

UK CBAM starts in January 2027 — and it’s something the fastener industry needs to be prepared for.

UK CBAM won’t just affect the businesses importing goods directly. It introduces a new charge on certain imported products, including iron and steel — which means stainless steel fasteners are in scope from day one.

A few key dates to be aware of:

1 January 2027 — UK CBAM begins
1 January 2028 — Registration opens
31 May 2028 — First return and payment due

One of the important points to understand is that using an agent doesn’t transfer the liability — responsibility remains with the named importer.

If you’re buying from a business that imports on your behalf, you may not be directly liable for CBAM, but the quality of their data and CBAM preparation could still have an impact on the costs you ultimately face.

Our Managing Director, Lennie Gent, is a member of the BSSA (British Stainless Steel Association) and has been involved in discussions around CBAM for several years. There are still a lot of unknowns, particularly around certain commodities.

While we’re not exhibiting at the show this year, we’re attending because we believe staying close to the industry is important for our customers.
