A few different jobs through the workshop recently 🔧

This motorcycle engine needed the gasket face machining back to a clean, flat surface. This was machined using a single-flute carbide insert end mill.

Alongside that, we’ve also been working on a couple of smaller one-off jobs:

🔩 A titanium wheel strap adjuster, machined on the manual mill using a rotary table.

🛠️ A modified hose connector and BSP fitting, silver soldered together to create the required custom connection.

It’s a good example of the variety of work that comes through the workshop — repairs, modifications, one-off components and small jobs that need a practical engineering solution.

Finished a batch of six gearbox components for a restoration company.These were reverse‑engineered from an original part and machined with a 6‑start ACME thread on the outside diameter, leaving a clean bore inside. The thread was CNC‑milled for accuracy across all six pieces.Great to see older machinery getting a second life.

Another DGL Engineering success story — reverse‑engineered left and right suspension top mounts for Tein Coilcover after catastrophic failure.
Laser‑cut profiles provided, then manual turning and drilling, and a custom jig made for CNC‑milling the profile for perfect alignment.
All done in‑house for precision and reliability.

Custom titanium harness adjusters machined with a single 6 mm heat‑resistant cutter. Jig design includes a pause in the program to add bolts mid‑cycle — stopping any rattle while machining the profile.

The hand‑drawn drawings behind these parts are brilliant — full of thought and detail on how they’ll be made.

Reverse‑engineered a missing table saw guard for a 50‑year‑old machine this week. No drawings. No spares. Just geometry and problem‑solving. I modelled a new guard, split it into three printable sections, added mating dovetails, printed each part, then bonded the assembly with epoxy for a rigid, accurate fit. Another obsolete component brought back into safe working order.

Finished a tidy little precision job today — a set of four brake‑adjuster gears machined from solid EN8 using 3‑axis 3D profiling with a 2 mm ball‑nose cutter.

Also made four matching bolts from 4140, with the threads screw‑cut on the lathe for a proper engineered fit.

Small parts, but a satisfying amount of detail.

A first‑time customer trusted me with a solid batch job — 20 top‑hat bushes for Access & Lifting.
Plenty of heavy material removal on these, all machined in‑house here in Northampton.
Great start to a new working relationship.

Another titanium job finished up.

Customer brought the material and a brilliant hand‑drawn technical drawing.
The long taper meant offsetting the tailstock by 10 mm and turning between centres.

Then I moved to the CNC mill with a 5C indexing head and tailstock to cut the flats — and match the large internal radius in the corner so everything blended cleanly with the lathe work.

I also made a mistake on one diameter. It happens to all of us. The important bit is fixing it and delivering the part properly.

Customer brought the material and a brilliant hand‑drawn technical drawing.
