J Clarke Marine Ltd Canopy fasteners and Stainless fittings

J Clarke Marine Ltd Canopy fasteners and Stainless fittings Suppliers of Canopy fasteners and Marine Stainless steel fittings JClarke Marine is a small but expanding company run by my wife and I.

Having been brought up in a boating family I was soon introduced to the many joys of the great outdoors and I have always held special affection for Strangford Lough in particular. An early interest in boating was fueled by my Granda, Albert Clarke, who established a sterling reputation throughout Northern Ireland and Ireland from a successful marine shop & showroom in Comber, County Down. One thi

ng lead to another and I found myself designing and manufacturing boat canopies all over Ireland, during which I quickly learnt about the different types of fasteners and fittings used in cover making and the expertise gained from this experience provided me with a keen understanding of the products customers need. In August 2011 I set up JClarke Marine: an online store to supply the end user with fasteners and fittings they may find hard to source. Every month I look at sourcing new products and making them available to you, so please watch this space! With over thousands of customers so far, we try our best to provide an excellent service as we value our customers greatly. All items are posted first class (within the UK) on a regular basis throughout the week. Please take your time to browse our website; it is relatively new but fully functional! Regards

⚠️ DAY 21 UPDATE ⚠️
Three weeks into our 30-day salt water corrosion test and the differences are becoming increasingly obvious.

The budget turnbutton has continued to deteriorate, with heavy corrosion deposits now surrounding the stud. Underneath these deposits, the stud has turned black and corrosion staining is becoming visible on other components.

Meanwhile, the genuine DOT turnbutton remains clean and shows no obvious signs of corrosion despite being exposed to exactly the same conditions.

Before anyone comments, this is NOT normal marine use. Both fasteners have been fully submerged in salt water 24 hours a day since Day 1, making this a much harsher test than most real-world marine applications.

Same salt water. Same container. Same duration.
Very different results.

Only 9 days remaining until the final Day 30 update.
What do you think the cheap turnbutton will look like by the end of the test?

⚠️ Day 14 Update – Salt Water Corrosion Test ⚠️

Two turnbuttons. Same salt water. Same conditions.

Fourteen days ago, we fully submerged a budget turnbutton bought online alongside a genuine DOT turnbutton to see how they would cope with prolonged exposure to salt water.

The differences are now becoming much more noticeable.

The budget turnbutton has developed significant corrosion around the stud, along with new rust-coloured spots appearing on other components. Meanwhile, the genuine DOT turnbutton remains clean with no obvious signs of corrosion.

Before anyone points it out, this is NOT normal marine use. Both fasteners are being fully submerged in salt water 24 hours a day, making this a much harsher test than most boat covers, canopies and marine canvas applications will ever experience.

However, both fasteners are facing exactly the same challenge.

We're now halfway through the test with 16 days remaining. It'll be interesting to see what they look like by Day 30.

Would you trust the cheaper option on your boat?

☀️ With the weather we've been having, I thought I'd share something I'm genuinely proud of.

Just over a year ago, we launched One-Seal.

It started as an idea after becoming frustrated with inflatable repairs. Too many paddleboards, dinghies, kayaks and inflatables were being thrown away because of leaks, tears and damaged seams.

After a lot of testing, development and refinement, One-Seal was born.

Since then, we've been amazed by the feedback.

Customers have used it to repair everything from paddleboards and inflatable boats to hot tubs, tent rips , pool toys and airbeds. Some of the stories and photos we've received have genuinely surprised us!

As a small family business, there's something special about seeing people successfully repairing items that they thought were destined for the bin.

If you're getting your inflatables out for the summer and discover a leak, rip or tear, don't throw it away just yet.

Thank you to everyone who has supported One-Seal so far. Every order, review, recommendation and share means a lot to Laura and me.

⚠️ Just 7 days in...
We're already seeing the first signs of corrosion on the budget turnbutton.

The white deposits forming on the stud aren't something we'd normally expect to see this early from a premium marine fastener.

Before anyone panics, this isn't normal use. Both fasteners are being fully submerged in salt water 24/7, which is much harsher than life on a boat cover or canopy.

However, both turnbuttons are facing exactly the same conditions.

The genuine DOT turnbutton still looks clean, while the budget turnbutton is already showing visible corrosion.
It's only Day 7. We still have 23 days to go.

Would you trust the cheaper option on your boat?

30 Day Salt Water Corrosion Test 🔬🌊
(We will update our highlights "Salt water test" each time)

We often get asked what the difference is between genuine DOT fasteners and cheaper alternatives, so we decided to run our own real-world test.

Over the next 30 days we’ll be fully submerging various canvas fasteners in salt water and posting regular updates to show how they perform over time.

This isn’t a laboratory test — just a simple harsh salt water environment similar to what marine fittings can face around boats, covers and coastal conditions.

The goal is simple:
✅ Show corrosion resistance
✅ Compare finishes and quality
✅ See how genuine DOT fasteners compare against lower-cost alternatives

We’ll post updates throughout the month so you can follow the results as they happen.

We often get asked what the difference is between genuine DOT fasteners and cheaper alternatives, so we decided to run our own real-world test. Plus I am a bit fed up seeing seriously cheap listings on Amazon and eBay. I may eat my words.... but I dont think the Chinese brand will last at all.
