After years helping steer Teignbridge forward, Mark Phare is handing over the role of Group Managing Director – with James Batten and Ian Mills now stepping into the position as Joint Group Managing Directors.

Between them, James and Ian bring decades of experience across the business and a deep understanding of the customers, projects, markets, and people that make Teignbridge what it is today.

James and Ian shared: “Teignbridge has always been built on innovation, people, relationships, and a drive to keep moving forward. We’re proud to take on this role together and continue building on the strong foundations already in place, supporting our customers, investing in our teams, and shaping the next chapter of the business.”

Mark reflected: “Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey – our teams in the UK and overseas, our customers, suppliers, partners, and everyone who has played a role in making Teignbridge what it is today. It’s been a privilege to be part of this team, and I’m excited to see what comes next.”

Please join us in congratulating James and Ian on their new roles and wishing Mark all the very best for his retirement. 👏🍾

After years helping shape Teignbridge Propellers into the business it is today, Group Managing Director Mark Phare will retire at the end of May.

Marine engineering businesses grow through steady decisions, trusted relationships, problem-solving under pressure, and people who genuinely care about getting things right. Mark’s leadership has played a huge part in that journey, and we’d like to thank him for his commitment, knowledge, and contribution over the years.

As one chapter closes, another begins.

James Batten and Ian Mills will step into the role of Joint Group Managing Directors, bringing decades of combined experience across the business and a deep understanding of the customers, markets, and people that make Teignbridge what it is.

Continuity matters in engineering. So does momentum. We’re looking forward to what comes next.

Wishing Mark a long, happy, and well-earned retirement from everyone at Teignbridge. 👏

We’re really pleased to share that Teignbridge has been shortlisted for ‘Best Large Employer’ at this year’s South Devon College Apprenticeship Awards. It’s a strong field (150+ nominations), which makes the recognition feel all the more meaningful.

We’ll find out the result on Thursday 21st May at the Imperial Hotel in Torquay – a great evening that celebrates the apprentices, mentors, and teams behind the scenes across so many industries.

We’re also proud to once again sponsor the ‘Marine Engineer’ Apprentice award – a category that’s close to home for us! ⚙️🌊

Good luck to everyone shortlisted – especially the apprentices building their future in engineering. 👏

On Saturday we hosted another Teignbridge family day at Buckland Athletic Football Club as they faced Oldland Abbotonians FC. The score finished 0–0, but the result almost felt secondary to the atmosphere around the ground.

Despite the chill, a great crowd from Teignbridge turned out to enjoy lunch, an open bar, and a good afternoon together. As match sponsor, our Chairman David Hunt presented the Player of the Match award – and we were honoured to receive a Buckland Athletic shirt signed by the full squad.

Looking after our people matters to us. Across the year we run family-focused events – from football days like this to factory open days and the traditional Christmas party.

And we’re always proud to support local teams like Buckland Athletic! ⚽👕👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Another beautiful Pooja taking place at our Indian facility. We would like to wish all colleagues, partners, and friends celebrating a joyful and peaceful time. 🙏

Pooja is an important Hindu tradition of prayer and devotion, bringing people together to give thanks, seek blessings, and celebrate faith and community.

To everyone marking the occasion – we hope it’s filled with reflection, celebration, and time with loved ones.

We’ve enjoyed watching another brilliant Six Nations this year – well done to all the teams for an incredible tournament. 🏉👏

A few Teignbridge staff and guests had the privilege of attending the England v Wales match at Twickenham. Fantastic atmosphere, great rugby, and a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

Always great to step away from the day-to-day, spend time with colleagues and partners, and enjoy moments like this together.

This World Engineering Day, we’re reflecting on where Teignbridge sits in relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals – and how aligning with them shapes the way we engineer:

💡 Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
For us, innovation isn’t a buzzword. It’s transient CFD simulations that model wake interaction before metal is poured. It’s additive pattern making and robotic sand milling that tighten tolerances and shorten development cycles. It’s designing propulsion as a hydrodynamic system – propeller, rudder and brackets working together – so vessels leave the dock performing as intended, not “close enough”. Strong infrastructure starts with engineering that anticipates reality, not reacts to it.

♻️ Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
Efficiency is a sustainability strategy. When a propeller is optimised for its exact hull and duty profile, fuel burn drops. When cavitation is reduced, lifecycle maintenance falls. When geometry is refined before casting, material waste is minimised. Responsible production in our world means fewer reworks, fewer unplanned yard visits and less wasted energy across decades of service.

🐟 Goal 14 – Life Below Water
Hydrodynamics has an environmental footprint. Poor flow creates noise, vibration and erosion – all of which affect marine ecosystems. By reducing cavitation and improving wake quality, we’re not only protecting machinery; we’re lowering underwater radiated noise and supporting more considerate vessel operation. Engineering choices ripple far beyond the shaftline.

World Engineering Day is a reminder that progress and responsibility should travel together.

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming 26 members of Rotary Newton Abbot through our doors.

Not for a presentation. Not for a sales pitch. Just to see how bronze, code and craftsmanship come together under one roof.

Over two days – and in three groups – they toured everything from advanced pattern making and 3D printing to robotic sand milling, our foundry, 5-axis propeller CNC lathe and quality inspection labs. Two groups happened to time it perfectly… witnessing a live casting pour straight from the furnace. 🔥

Rotary Newton Abbot has been serving the local community for over 100 years – raising funds, sharing skills and bringing people together to make a tangible difference. It felt fitting to open up our facility to a group so rooted in the same place we call home.

Engineering can feel abstract until you see it, hear it, and feel the heat of it!
