Poor centralization can lead to channels in the cement where gas or mud can migrate — compromising zonal isolation and putting well integrity at risk. These issues often stem from low standoff, where the casing sits too close to the wellbore wall and prevents uniform cement coverage.
High standoff is critical to centralization. It allows cement to fully surround the casing, eliminating channels and delivering a complete, effective cement sheath.
