A lovely low mileage in today for some diagnosis into the cruise control not working.
As many of you e39 owners may know the cruise control won’t work if the air flow meter has either failed or not plugged in. This 530i had a permanent fault for the air flow meter even when testing known working ones. So some further diagnosis was needed for this. After removed the ‘e box’ lid and noticed oil sitting in the bottom of the housing, obviously this is coming from somewhere. After removing the plug connectors from the DME, the plug for the engine wiring harness was covered in oil and has flooded the DME. The next step was locating where this had come from. Fortunately with access to wiring diagrams for the vehicle I was able to narrow down the search and ultimately find a failed exhaust camshaft sensor was the culprit.
Where the camshaft sensor had failed internally over time the oil had tracked its way back through the wiring harness to the DME.
This will be rectified along with a few other jobs required.

In today we had this lovely low mileage Z3 following the customer complaining of both front seats rocking.
For those that aren’t aware this is a very common issue on the Z3’s and is a repairable item. The standard BMW bushes situated within the seat runners fail causing the rocking of the seat.
We carry out this repair using upgraded parts from X8R which are designed to last.

If this is an issue that has been bothering you for a while don’t hesitate to get in touch.
