⭐️⭐️⭐️This week our spotlight is on our lovely degree Apprentice Luke. Here he tells us about his week…..”For block week we went to Souter Lighthouse in South Shields to investigate a previously developed brownfield site, which used to be the old Marsden mining village. We were given plots of land in groups and were asked to determine each plot’s suitability to be used to construct a small ‘reflection hut’ looking out to sea over the cliffs. We took survey measurements and recorded data such as spot levels, setting out points and ground condition tests, which involved the use of a schmitt hammer and field vane test. We also conducted a site walkover survey, which involved planning before hand as part of a desk study to identify points of interest that we wanted to check out on the trip. We stopped for lunch where we were able to go off as a group and find a dry-ish part of the coast to sit and have some food. We then got back to walking around site, taking photos of exposed utilities. Overall it was a great day out. Somehow I managed to burn while being rained on!” Thanks Luke we love hearing about what you’re learning! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
