The McGregor Structures team recently completed one of our largest single-site Opus installations, twenty structures for United Utilities at Halewood in Widnes.
The application is sludge cake storage at a wastewater treatment works. Biosolids produced during the treatment process need to be protected from the elements before being taken to farms as fertiliser. Covered storage keeps moisture levels in the cake lower, improving product quality and reducing processing load on site. Integrated guttering across every structure means water is collected rather than hitting the ground, taking further pressure off the factory.
The project specs:
→ Each pod 12m wide, 24m long
→ Bespoke roof sheet length of 19.4m, beyond the standard 16m maximum
→ 12 structures installed at Halewood in four weeks
→ 20 structures across the full project
Andy McGregor, our Engineering Director, was on site for the final handover. He was asked what sets McGregor Structures apart on a project of this scale, he kept it simple:
"With McGregor Structures, it's always the quality that sets us apart from everyone else."
As United Utilities' storage requirements grow, additional pods can be dropped into the existing layout without changing what is already in place.
