A 10-year guarantee on a covered structure sounds straightforward. What it means depends entirely on the written terms.
Before committing to any structure, these are the four things worth reading in the full guarantee document:
→ What counts as a defect. Guarantees cover only what they define as a defect, and definitions vary.
→ How cover is graduated. Fabric and frame typically run on different timelines, stepping down year by year. The headline term is not the whole picture.
→ What is excluded. Repeated installation and dismantling, abnormally high wind or snow, ground conditions, the containers or blocks the structure sits on. Exclusions are not always prominent in the headline marketing.
→ What the liability cap is. Some guarantees cap total liability at the purchase price or a fixed figure, whichever is lower.
Most container canopy suppliers publish a summary or headline figure. The full terms tend to follow after a purchase order has gone out.
