Thinking about building a SIP garden room, office, studio or gym?

Not all SIP kits include the same things, so it’s important to know exactly what you’re comparing before looking at price.

A typical UltraSIPs garden room kit can include the SIP wall panels, SIP roof panels, splines, fixings and breather membrane, with options like SIP floors, EPDM roof covering and delivery depending on the build.

Do SIP panel builds need Building Control?

The short answer: it depends on what you’re building, where it’s going, how big it is, and how it will be used.

A small detached garden office or hobby room may be exempt if it meets the right conditions. But extensions, annexes, sleeping accommodation, larger buildings, serviced buildings, commercial spaces, and projects with big structural openings are much more likely to need approval.

SIP panels themselves aren’t the deciding factor. Building Control looks at the finished building: structure, fire safety, insulation, ventilation, drainage, electrics, glazing, foundations and overall use.

If you’re planning a SIP garden room, extension, annexe, workshop or garage, it’s worth checking early rather than changing the design later.
