As Naveed, our Manufacturing Engineer Graduate Intern, completes his internship with us, we’re delighted to share some reflections from his time at Dormor Machine & Engineering. It’s been a pleasure having him on the team, and we wish him all the very best as he embarks on the next step of his career journey.
‘Since the beginning of my internship at Dormor Machine & Engineering on February 3rd, I have had the opportunity to experience a diverse range of tasks that have enriched my learning journey. Throughout my time here, I’ve had the chance to work in both office-based roles and hands on positions in the workshop, providing me with a well-rounded understanding of the industry. From the very start, my production managers, Dave and Glyn, have been incredibly supportive, ensuring that I receive the guidance and mentorship I need to make the most of my time here. Their approach to leadership has not only been instructive but also motivational, as they constantly encouraged me to apply what I’ve learned and take on new challenges.
In the workshop, I had the privilege of working with Alex, a machinist programmer, who provided valuable hands-on experience in manufacturing processes. The practical work I was involved in allowed me to develop my technical skills and get a deeper understanding of how machinery and tools work for real world applications. At the same time, I also gained experience in office-based tasks such as cataloguing machines and looking into preventative maintenance technology. This balance between office and workshop tasks has given me a comprehensive view of the day-to-day operations of the company.
One of the highlights of my experience has been the team atmosphere at Dormor. All the staff, from my managers to my colleagues, have been welcoming, friendly, and eager to share their knowledge. The supportive nature of the team has made it easy for me to ask questions, seek advice, and grow in both confidence and ability. I’ve learned so much from their expertise, and they have created an environment where I feel valued as an intern, which has made my experience all the more rewarding. The culture at Dormor is one that encourages learning, collaboration, and personal development, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of such dynamic and encouraging team.
Overall, my time at Dormor has been amazing. I’ve gained practical experiences, developed new skills, and worked with an exceptional team who have all contributed to making this internship an invaluable part of my career journey. I look forward to the final weeks of my internship and continuing to learn from this incredible team.’
